You probably could, however if your rig is like most Acer NB's one of the leg pads for the NB is on the battery itself. If you remove the battery than your LT isn't going to sit properly and will rock.

As to powering the computer using only AC and without the battery I personally would not recommend it. Your battery is also like a circuit breaker protecting your declicate electronics inside the laptop from any surges that go through your AC outlet, without the battery in place if your LT is plugged in and there happens to be a power surge out of your outlet where the LT is plugged in you could be shopping for a new rig.

Leave the battery in, charge it while in use and go on battery power only after it is fully charged up.

Why do you want to do this? What benefit do you think this will give you?

You can run the laptop without the battery. It wont damage the system, but leaving it in has one advantage. In the case of power failure or if the connector comes off loose, the laptop wont suddenly turn off and you wont lose any unsaved data.

Check your laptops user manual for instructions on how to remove the battery.

Overcharging is a thing of the past, unless the battery is faulty modern Li-ion batteries are built to charge only upto 100%. The best thing is to run the battery through a charge discharge cycle every 3 - 4 weeks, the battery should not have any problems even if you do not use the battery or leave it in while running on A/C power.

I'm not to sure about that. I haven't experienced any problems with my work laptop in this way. As miner said, this is pretty much something of the past.
