    hi everyone,
i have recently bought an acer aspire 5633. i'm really happy with it apart from one problem, it sometimes (rarely i have to add, maybe once o twice a day, sometimes not at all) has a black flash on the whole screen for around half a second. the best thing i can compare it to is like a screensaver is starting up but then deciding not to. i cannot figure out why it is doing it. i am unsure whether it is a software thing (i know vista has that annoying habit of darkening the screen when you are attempting something important and asking for permission) or a hardware one (there doesn't seem to be any problem with anything else).

does anyone else have any idea what this problem might be or any solution for it? i don't even know what causes the problem so i have very little to go on. any help will be much appreciated.

Are you doing anything even pressing any keys? I suspect it is you IGP (GM950) Refreshing and fighting the system to free up RAM, especially if you only have 1GB. Just a guess as I have somtimes had similar but I have different card and system.

hi powerpack, thanks for the response. it does usually seem to happen when i am running a program of some sort, but it does not need to be particularly demanding. for example, it has happened during me watching a film (avi) or when running open transport tycoon deluxe, neither of which i can imagine are very strenuous for the computer.
i'll have a go at freeing up some more memory and see if it makes a difference, and try and post back regarding the results.
