ok if I understand correctly this laptop does not come with a WLAN?? How important is this??
-
This laptop DOES have WLAN. The bit that says "WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY: 802.11b/g WLAN".
I have checked on the Acer website and that info is correct.
You ask how important is this? How important is it to you? Do you need wireless? Do you have the capability to use the wireless (Wireless router)? Do you want to be able to go wireless around town, hotels, train stations, McDonalds etc? -
It depends how important you think WLAN is. If you have a wireless network at home then you could have use for the WLAN, otherwise not that much. If you plan on carrying the machine around with you, I would recommend a model without a Sempron or Celeron M processor as they are not as power efficient as Turion and Pentium M.

LOL I feel like an idiot!!!I read a review and the person said there was no WLAN HAHA..thanks for pointing out it does have one
-
It's main job will be a stationary laptop
other than the WLAN are the features pretty good for what I plan to use it for?? -
The 3003wlmi is another variant of the 3000 series. Check out this thread....

I have the same laptop with the same spec. Its a fine laptop IF you dont mind the poor battery life. 1hr is what you should expect. Acer cheaped out on the battery. -
not worried about battery life for the time being.. thanks for the info
-
I think that this laptop is perfectly adequate for what you want. However, you won't be able to upgrade it like a PC when you want to do something more intensive. I would think about what you might want to do in the future.
If this is all you will do, then it is fine. If you may want more power choose another. -
Well I currently have a dell inspiron 7500 with intel celeron, 466 Mhz, 128 MB and 9GB which weighs about 10lbs and is about 3" thick....so I'm thinking the acer is MORE than enough power for me LOL!!!!
Thanks for the help guys -
but can I upgrade the 512mb to 1gig?? -
Yes, you can. Maximum ram is 2gig. I have the same notebook, is a nice machine for the money, nice design[better from Dell, no offence], it does not get verry hot and is very strong too. I use photoshop, indesign and Autocad with 1.5 gig ram,i change the size for the video card from the bios and now i have 128mb from 64mb and i have no problem. Battery is very poor about 50 minutes. -
Yeah, the only fault i can think of is the battery.
I think these are amazing laptops for the price. -
It arrived today!!! WAHOO..So I am currently palying around...ok question though and I apologize for the laymen terms etc...I'm looking to transfer files form the dell to the acer, so I need to set up a network...how do I do that and do I need 2 yellow/ethernet cords?? I also have a lynksys router.. do I need anything else??
