Hi all,
I'm writing on behalf of a friend who has an Acer Travelmate 4500 series laptop...4502LMi to be precise.
XP sp3
Okay here's the deal:
press power > black screen with safe mode options appears > select Start Windows Normally >Then black Windows XP logo startup screen
appears > then screen appears saying checking disk for consistency, volume Serial Number is 2629-16F0 > after check disk completes then Acer screen appears > Then screen saying " To begin, click your username" > then click username and then desktop appears > 5 seconds later blue screen appears saying :
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0xFF1711F2, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804D9B64)
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or tech support group.
Then computer restarts and the blue screen appears again.... then restarts and then Black safe mode screen appears again.... then windows logo screen then restarts etc. etc. etc.![]()
When trying to boot in safe mode screen says:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\System32 ..but freezes. doesnt boot.
On Safe mode screen, windows advanced Options Menu, when trying Last known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Boots to desktop, then a few seconds later blue screen again:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
The only way to login without it shutting down is to select: Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only) But not sure as to what action I should take.. should I try system restore??
Also only way to power off the laptop is to unplug the battery.
any help is most appreciated ,
thanks.

I have the same problem occasionally... do you also get a REFERENCE_BY_POINTER error?
-
There could be a number of reasons for this issue including a bad HDD. However if you google your STOP a number of references specifically refer to the wifi driver being the source of the problem and that they were able to overcome the issue by disabling the wifi function, allowing a succesful boot with no networking and then updating the wireless drivers, though this may require a driver cleanup first. have you tried this at all?
-
I have found that this was the case with the Intel wireless adapter causing the problems.
I entered safe mode>disabled the wireless adapter and was able to go into windows just fine.
Just to be sure, I went into device manager once back into windows and enabled the device, which promptly bluescreened the machine.
Safe Mode>Disabled it>rebooted>just fine!
I attempted to install the drivers from the acer site, but would still do no more than die. Sad state of affairs.
Will update the BIOS of the machine and write back to annotate any change if there is any.
problem booting..blue screen??
