Hi, I have a new ACER 5000 series. It had a 100GB HD (2 partitions) and I converted it to NTFS.......
Sudenly I noticed that IE does not remember cookies aldo it's set to. I enable activex and it windwos update or gmail say I need activex....
I also have problem configuring outlook express with a hotmail account....
So...is it possible that I have a permisson problem after the convertion??

You know, i have always doubted the painless factor of converting file formats without reinstalling the whole system. Things just go wrong... i dont know why and they are always different. The one thing that never changes is the fact that something has gone wrong. Wipe everything clean and reinstall.

Im planning on getting a new acer, and my old one, the split drive, and the fact that it is FAT32, it's gonna be the first thing I do to my acer, reinstall windows, and format to NTFS. (After checking everything works first!)

Directly with the Windows XP cd that comed with ACER or with the recovery CDs I can choose the filesystem?
Is there any problem with XP Home edition with NTFS??
thanks! -
I did the same thing on my aspire 3613 and it totally screwed things up. Tons of programs died. And i got tons of former icons that diddn't work anymore and i could not delete. I tried everything to delete them.
I eventually gave up and started from scratch. Reinstalled xp and it's actually a bit faster. -
Win XP whatever edition you have works pretty well with the NTFS format. however, it is not always clear why in some cases converting from FAT32 to NTFS from the WindowsXP environment using the native command "convert [volume] /fs:ntfs [/v] [/cvtarea:FileName] [/nosecurity] [/x]" does not function the way it should. that is why i opt always to do the converting using a hard drive maintenance utility like Partition Magic or Hard Disk Manager Pro. but if you would do a clean install it is wise to choose the option format to NTFS from the very beginning.
problems after NTFS conversion?
