Hi, I have an Acer Travelmate 4000(4001LMi) that I needed to reformat. The problem is that the internal cd drive cannot read any discs anymore. As with my other notebooks, installing the cd using an external drive usually solves the problem.

In this case, the Acer Travelmate 4000 doesn't detect my USB cd/dvd drive which contains the recovery disc (even tried bootable linux cds). At this point, I have no other option as to how to re-install the OS as the drive would not read cds neither recognize USB devices on boot.

There is no information in the manual about installing from an external device, so I take it that maybe it doesn't support installing anything other than its internal cd drive which usually breaks in a year.

It doesn't matter what OS I could install so long as it can do internet browsing, it's just that I do not have any idea anymore on how to install without using the internal cd drive.

Maybe you guys can help, thanks in advance!
