My GF's friend wants to get a laptop computer. Her place doesn't allow for a regular desktop setup like what some of us might have so for the last few weeks I have been checking some makes and models of Laptops for her.

After looking at different possibilities, I realized again that for the money it was hard to not consider the 1681 model again for her. She is not going to be too mobile with it. She just wants a laptop that she could use at home for internet, email, and running some programs. Since she's spending the money I felt it was best for her to get a centrino version vs. like a celeron or P4 model. I came up with the Aspire 1681 LCi. It would be basically like mine except it doesn't have the WS, dedicated video card, card reader or DVD burner but has pretty well everything else and should last her for a long time.

Chances are she will buy it at this place:

I'm planning to go there today and check it out then later in the week we'll go again for her to have a look and ultimately make the purchase if she feels it is for her.

I know this is an Acer board but for her do you think this is a good choice of LT for her?

P.S. whatever she gets I can't wait to get my hands on it so I can get it setup just perfect for her to use. More tinkering ahead for me!!!!! [ :D][ :D][8D][ :)][ :p]

Well, I'm going to be playing with a new Acer LT the next few days. My 1681 now has a sister LT as a companion also a 1681 the one mentioned above. I picked it up earlier today and I will be getting it ready for my GF's friend to use.

I even got the place to throw in a Microsoft wireless mouse the same one I use on my laptop too. So for the price mentioned above for the LT I got the mouse for her for free. She's going to enjoy it a lot!!!!!

To be honest, I haven't even opened the box for the new 1681 yet. I won't see her for a few days and I will wait until I see her before opening up the package. Basically she will be the one to take it out of the box. I didn't even break the tape that seals the box up yet.

Once it's out and I start working with it I will post here what I think of the 1681 LCi as compared to my 1681 WLMi.

BTW George, was it you that emailed me about your 1681 and the fact that the display didn't work? If it was you did you figure out what it was? Didn't hear back from you hope you got it figured out and you're enjoying using your 1681 as much as I've enjoyed using mine.

George hopefully it's nothing serious and is a minor problem. Let me know what they did to fix the problem and once you get it back enjoy it!!! [ :)]
