When I plug my sd card into my reader on my laptop,(acer aspire 5100) it makes that sound that it's being accepted but the autoplay won't bring it up like it's suposed to.When I go to my computer it shows up as H drive and I'm able to import that way and all the other autoplay functions work, so what the heck is wrong here. I'm running Vista home premium. :(

can you see the MEMORY CARD by clicking on MY COMPUTER??

it should show up as an EXTERNAL device with a DRIVE LETTER assigned to it..

    such as E: of F:

if you can see the device w/ a drive letter inside MY COMPUTER... double click on it... are your files there?? are any files or folders there?

    hope that helps

If you read my thread you'd see that I can import from My Computer. It does show up as a H: drive. What I want is for my autoplay to work again.

Dunno much about vista....but right click on the sd card....goto properties..
Autoplay and select 'prompt me each time to choose an action'....
see if that works though vista has a similar UI....!!

    Follow these steps:

    1. Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt.

    2. Click Run as administrator.

    3. At the command prompt, type net start shellhwdetection, and then press ENTER.

    4. Restart your computer.

    See if this changes anything....

Tried it."does not recognise "shellhwdetection" as an internal or external command or batch file." Something to that extent anyway.I tied it all the way through anyway and no dice. Once again,Good try.

Ensure that Shell Hardware Detection service is running

Type “service.msc” in Start Search to run Services console. Locate Shell Hardware Detection, and ensure that the “Service Status” is Running, and “Startup Type” is Automatic. If not, start the service and change the Startup Type setting accordingly.

I downloaded the fix and ran it,by the way I tried this before and I think this fix is strictly for XP,but I tried it again anyway and got the same result. The box with ""The program has stopped working Microsoft will close the program and let you know if there's a solution".I'm sure you've seen that before.I checked the other things you asked and they're all good. Thanx for your trying.I'm going to bet this is a Vista issue.

Well, well! Finally did it! I went to see my tech friend in St. Catharines because I didn't trust myself to mess with the registry. He followed your directions reset Vista's default value to 145 and up it came when I plugged the SD card in. Perfect!! I want to thank you for your time and patience in dealing with me. The world needs more people like you.
