    hi guy
    i checked this timeline AS3810T-6775
    Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU9400 (3MB L2 cache, 1.40GHz, 800MHz FSB); 4GB (2/2) DDR3 1066 SDRAM; 80GB solid state drive; 5-in-1 card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 13.3" WXGA (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11b/g/Draft-N WLAN, Bluetooth®, gigabit LAN, webcam
so it costs aout 800 $

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115593&nm_mc=OTC-Channel&cm_mmc=OTC-channel-_-Notebooks-_-Acer+America-_-34115593&srccode=cii_12479&cpncode=24-6910051&DEPA=0&refer=channel&CMP=OTC-

    and i couldnt understand something
why is it 100 $ cheeper than this AS3810T-6415
    Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU9400 (3MB L2 cache, 1.40GHz, 800MHz FSB); 4GB (2/2) DDR3 1066 SDRAM; 500GB hard drive; 5-in-1 card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 13.3" WXGA (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11b/g/Draft-N WLAN, Bluetooth®, gigabit LAN, webcam

so they are nearly the same except for the hard drive
shouldn't a 80 gb ssd be nigher in price than 500gb hhd
i am not discussing which is better (of coarse ssd is better :) )
    but y is it cheaper
is this site (newegg)a bad site or what

I ordered my laptop from Newegg last week, they are a very reputable site. It's on sale for $100 off retail price. Dont know why the 500 gb model and the SSD model are the same retail price, but I'm not complaining.

Newegg's 3810T-6775 is on sale, the original price is $900
    I don't know how much a 500GB hard drive costs, but I'd imagine it's comparable to a 80GB SSD

The 80GB SSD isn't that expensive anymore - if it's the Intel X25-M, they just released the second-generation at $250 or so. Which means that any first-generation X25-Ms are probably going to be discounted further.

15-20GB yes, but some people who move to SSDs can add a 2nd hard drive to their system to store all of their junk.
For example, most notebooks with an optical drive can swap it out and use a hard drive adapter. I plan on doing that myself if/when I move to an X25-M, so I can keep my 320GB hard drive and store all of my music and videos on it (I rarely use my optical drive anyway).

I only have a ~60gb of space on my laptop drive. I only keep files on it when I am in a transition state. In other words, transitioning between source and my external hard drives.

Honestly, I don't have a need for large storage space on my laptop, nor do I find it that beneficial.

Windows 7 comes in at a very small 6-8gb footprint on my Timeline. Also the reason why the machine is cheaper is because the G1 X25-M's are now at pretty much closeout pricing. Newegg is selling the standalone ones for $225 and price will keep dropping. Acer obviously got a much bigger discount for being an OEM manufacturer so the price is about right. IMO the $799 Timeline on newegg with the X25-M is one of the absolute best bargains for a laptop right now. Who else even makes a machine with the same specs and 8 hours battery for the same price? I am really impressed with these new machines. Their build quality is a lot higher than your normal run of the mil acers at a great price.

I would personally buy the one with the SSD and spend the money I'd save on a good external hard drive.

No matter what I would buy the SSD version. The difference between an SSD and regular hard drive is just huge in a notebook when it comes to performance. If you want to store a bunch of stuff you can always just buy an external 2.5" hdd for cheap.

The $100 you just saved buys you an external 2.5" HDD from WD or Seagate so for the same price you just got much better performance and even more storage.

Even if the one w/ the SSD was $100 more than the HDD, it would still be a better deal. If they used the Gen 2 drives, it would be best but even the Gen 1 Intel SSD is several orders of magnitudes better than any mechanical HDD.

strange thing on newegg there is only one review on the one with the ssd although i think its the best deal in the timeline family
there are 9 reviews on some other models
people will buy this more for sure

someone mentioned something about a graphic card other than 4500 is that true

The laptop only showed up on their website last week. I ordered last week and received on Tuesday. Most havent had time to write a review yet. Mine will be VERY positive. Only issue is that this laptop is damage, (multi media card slot is broken) so it will be going back for replacment.

I agree with previous poster's, buy the SSD version and get a slim usb external hard drive. I picked up a WD 320 gB for $67 and will use it to get files from my main desktop and to use on the road with the Acer.

There is an option for discrete GPU, HD 4330. But I think it's only available for 14" and 15". I hope they can fit in a 13" model though, but I haven't seen any.

something else very confusing is the bluetooth
    most specs mention bluetooth
and most customer reviews complain about the lack of bluetooth
    its very unclear

i really wish the ssd model would have an esata port coz we would have used it
and backlit keyboard wont be bad either

i hear the goods in USA are of better quality than middle east and they are cheaper
although i don't know about the warranty, will it work here in Egypt
acer says world wide warranty but its a risk i ll have to take

The timeline AS3810T-6775 DOES have the bluetooth module built in. Some timeline models do and some don't.

Esata isnt a deal killer for me, I dont have an esata device. My desktop does have an esata port, seems useful only for very large file sets or large backups, neither will I be doing on my laptop. I do agree about the backlit keyboard, that would be cool.

Newegg is a great site, and I have had better luck with them than best buy for sure. I have bought from them at least a 20 times over many years with various PC components and such. Great customer service.
