1. Most likely Seagate but I'd wait on someone who knows.
2. Not significantly enough to notice the difference. 2GB of system RAM would be preferred obviously.
3. Nope. It's just like every other OEM BIOS.
4. Nope. Read about that in the Gaming (Software and Hardware) section.
5. You can check that on the Acer website for your purchasing region. www.acer.com
7. Yes, I believe you can change the boot order. But again, you should wait for someone who knows.
The rest I don't know -

Hi,
i´ve got an Aspire 5100.
1. I have a Hitachi 541010
3. No tweakable settings - i heard there is a Admin site in the bios - but i could not activate it yet!
4. The video card is on the mainboard - yes you could get a new mainboard from acer - but you could also buy a new notebook for the price
5. Do not know - google for a SSM-8515S
6. 3 -4 hrs with lowest energy settings - less with higher brightness, CPU ...

If you can get a machine with more ram than 1GB - get it - it is normaly cheaper to buy one with more memory than to upgrade it afterwords.
I was pretty surprised from the quality and design of that notebook - I saw today a really ugly HP. I expected the worst for that cheap price and got an really good working notebook for the price of a no name. If you can afford get the 5102 - it has the dual core processor. But for normal office work you won´t need the second core.
The service is not the best but at this time i did not need it. Oh - if you know a way to get the email led work - tell us - we want to know.
Check for scratches on the display! At the shop the clerk showed me the notebook - there was a little dust piece on the screen - i asked him to get that away because i wanna know if it was in the display or just dust - he put it away and after that there was a scratch on the display! So be careful with the glary display.
Out of the box the drivers were old - replaced them nearly all, get rid of some blowware and it works for me perfect.
