hmmmmmm... so you're basicly asking how to remove a bios password from a laptop?

to me it sounds a bit fishy but that could just be me.

Lets assume that you are the owner of it and you know the password. Maybe you could try to hook up a separate keyboard to it? Nah.. that probably doesnt work because usb wont work.

    EDIT:
and the recovery disc will not help you.

I think hes saying that when he types nothing happens.

If you forgot your password call acer, prove you own the laptop and they maybe able to help you out. I had bought a dell on ebay with this issue and dell would not help me, I was not the original owner. parted it on ebay, and got my money back.

I have a friend with this exact same problem, he has spoken to acer and they say they can fix it for £50. Its not that he has forgotten his password but it just doesnt let you type. The keyboard is still working because the function keys still operate (screen contrast etc). He has also used a usb keyboard, power went to the keyboard but it still would not let you enter the password.

If it was just that he had forgotten the password you can just enter a back door password to get past it. For Phoenix bios this include "PHOENIX" and "BIOS" but as you cant type this wont work.

The error occured when trying to resume from standby mode.

Does anyone know where the bios re-set is on an Acer travelmate 2700?? This seems to be the only way to solve the problem and im sure that acer will do just that, charge £50 and take a month to do it.

    Problem solved.

removed keyboard, located bios batter on the right hand side, could not remove the battery and there was no jumper. decided to short the two terminals going to the battery, did it for approx 1min 30 seconds and the bios was cleared.

booted as normal on a resume from previous shutdown and went into windows no problem.

We did also disconnect the keyboard from the motherboard, this was the first time we had done this so it is possible this may have been a factor in solving the problem.

instructions for removal of the keyboard can be found here:
