Don't worry about the Acer e-bloatware. I have replaced the original Acer Vista Home Premium with an OEM version. The only Acer drivers I have used were the one for the Crystal Eye webcam and the Acer Synaptics touchpad driver. When I installed Vista the MS Windows update found all the drivers it needed except these two. I have saved myself 12% of memory (250k) and my laptop runs faster and boots quicker.

I used vlite to get rid of all vista's bloatware too. Everything runs much smoother now :D But you could try to reinstall empowering and see what happens.
