    acer extensa 5420-5687. the bottom middle touchpad button (scrolling up & down, right & left) does not work after the 3rd day I had laptop. did I shut off something that needs to be turned on or what caused it to quit.

    Hey-
    I DON'T have the same laptop model as you, but since there are no other replies, and also knowing how frustrating it is to not have that functionality, I figured I'd give it a shot.

    Try updating the driver - I'm guessing its a synaptics whatever, but check the acer site to be sure. Then, once that's done, go into the little synaptics app where you adjust settings, and make sure that hot zones or touch zones or whatever its called is turned ON. I upgraded an Acer 5100 from Vista to XP and was having the same infuriating problem, and simply activating this feature returned functionality to the touchpad. Give it a shot.
