Hi,
I was trying to burn some DVDs with my laptop yesterday. However, once I've finished burning, I couldn't watch the DVDs on my Sony DVD player or using the Acer DVD-watching program. The only way that I was able to watch the DVDs was to use the Real Player. The DVD-Rs that I used was memorex DVD-R 4x. Any ideas? Is it the program that I was using, or was I using too cheap of DVD-Rs?
Thank you.

Please don't take insult from this, but did you actually burn a DVD movie with the VIDEO_TS folder and all the VOB files? If not, that could explain why it won't play on your players. You may want to check the disc to make sure it's formatted correctly. If it is, you may want to try using a different program to burn. The other option is to try better discs.

If you meant that you burnt some home-made or downloaded media files to DVD, the format must be correct before DVD players will recognise it, in most cases this requires encoding into the MPEG format.
If this is the problem, an MPEG encoder such as TMPG would be the solution. I have used this myself to create VCDs and it is very good. -
What it says on the outside of the box is actually no indication of who makes the disc. Use DVD Identifier to find out who makes the discs:

The you can look them up on VideoHelp.com to see what experiences others have had with the discs. You can also look up your burner to find discs that others have had success burning. Memorex's quality is all over the place. Some are Mitsubishi Chemical and Taiyo Yuden amongst the best, and some are Princo and CMC Mag amongst the worst. Trying a differnet brand is a good suggestion. Sometimes certain burners don't like a certain media. A firmware and/or ide driver update may cure some problems. What software(s) are you using to make the disc?

Venombite, I did have the VIDEO_TS folder and all the VOB files when I was burning them. Actually, I was burning movies, which have already been decrypted. I was using CloneDVD to burn the DVDs. I know people who have gone through the same process and had no problem with viewing the DVDs, but for some reason, mine just wasn't working.
But I will check out what zazonz suggests. If there're other sugestions, please let me know. Thanks. -
I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter in combination. They are very easy to use and free. There are guides in the help files for DVD shrink. You can tell DVD Shrink to make the output into a .iso file and burn it with DVD Decrytper. Works real slick.
