i just did a fresh install of my new 5672. after reading this forum, i kinda realized there were gonna be problems getting everything to work normally. i have the x1400, 2bg ram, 120g hd (if that matters)..
problems i have run into:
1) used partition magic to format both partitions, but left the hidden partition as is (should i delete this? i made the restore dvd). i installed windows on C: partition and now when i boot up, theres 2 windows xp pro OS's listed..anyone have a clue why? one of them doesnt work... it takes me to a screen as if i were still installing windows
2) orbicam - i have read that others have had problems with this as well. i installed the software and driver but when i load it..it says connecting to camera..and then all i see is solid grey where the picture/video should be
3)hotkeys - do i need to install the acer launch program to have the hotkeys such as the volume keys on the side to worK?
4)acer software - is any other acer software useful? other than the e power management
i got all the drivers/software from the acer panam website. these seem to be the only things that arent working correctly. any help is appreciatedand sorry if these questions are newb

Not sure how to fix it, though. -
1) About the Partition Magic thing, I think there are still some Windows Installation files somewhere in your drive. I don't know how/why it's there, but it seems as if that is a possibility. You could also try and edit "boot.ini" so that there is only one OS in that file. I suggest editing through msconfig.
4) Launch Manager. Lol. I have personally configure the "P" button to run Azureus. It helps. A lot (for me, at least).
2) Orbicam - I haven't much idea. Do you get "Orbicam Driver" and "Orbicam Software" in your Add/Remove programs list? If you don't then there's something wrong with your installation - try uninstalling, Rebooting, and then installing it back again.
About the hotkeys - I'll take a look and be back. I need to restart -
oops, double post. Sorry! I promise I won't make a triple post -
the orbicam driver and software do appear in my add/remove programs list. it still doesnt seem to want to work -
Hmm... Maybe you should uninstall, reboot and re-install again? It's not going to do any harm you know
I'm still confused about the Launch Manager thingy. I have it installed but I *did* uninstall a couple of Acer junk. Now it's not working either. Which leads me to believe that all Acer stuff are linked to one another. Odd,I must say. Sorry, can't help you there sunlei86.... -
hmm...i uninstalled the drivers a few times and reinstalled them with the same problem. the green light on the camera lights up but i still cant seem to get a picture. anyone else have a solution? thanks

Well, you can always contact Acer
My experience with their customer service has been positive. I've called them up a few times based on minor issues and they've been great. Maybe you can call 'em too? -
I use grid vista all the time...its allows you to do dual monitor. I too am having issues with the install of win xp pro, but mine is sp1. I dont know what the issue is, but the wifi doesnt work right (shows available WAPs, but not in the normal xp screen as well as wont connect to any). As well as I have 2 cautions in device manager that I have no clue about, and that is after installing all the drivers on the acer site.
Where did you get the drivers from? I got mine from the acer website. -
i got mine from the www.acerpanam.com.
http://www.notebookforums.com/thread156313.html this link tells you some of the drivers you will need.
also dont forget the intel chipset driver...everything on my notebook is working now..except those hot keys near the top but i dont care for those -
Glad to hear everything's working fine, Sunlei86
And liquidxit2, I do agree with Sunlei86. Install SP2. That in itself cleans out most of the errors.
