Are you unable to boot into the recovery software? Try checking your bios to make sure d2d recovery is enabled.

If your laptop came with recovery cds, try poping them in and setting the bios to boot from cd and follow the wizard.

There is no combination of keys that will format the drive, to do this you would need a vista install dvd.

sounds like your HDD is toast. i had a travelmate that did the same thing. replaced the HDD and bingo works. like a charm.

What part of boot or install do you get the BSOD? And also what exactly does it say?

Check out this artical for some info on bsods.

It could also be bad ram or the cpu overheating, try pulling 1 stick of ram at a time (presuming you have 2) or swapping all to-gether. Try asking a few friends if they have spare hds & ram and to do some testing.
