:asus: hi everyone! I'm thinking of updating the graphics card on my 5021wlmi and i just need to find out if it's worth doing and if so why? secondly is it difficult to do? I'm not completely computer savvy, the graphics card is a ati x700 which when i enquired was quite a good gfx card (pci express).I want be able to play current and future games at reasonable speeds and frame rates. My previous attempt failed so this time i'd like to get it right this time (i.e not have to to reformat hehe) thanks fellas :)

You can go to www.omegadrivers.net and download the modded desktop drivers. ;) (easy way, and probably best)

Or, you can go to www.driverheaven.net, download the modding tool, and install the stock ATi drivers from ati's site.

It is definitely worth doing. New drivers add improvements and performance tweaks, and the new ATi Catalyst drivers (5.7 on up) add support for HyperMemory.

    You are welcome! :)

I saw a clear performance increase between Acer's stock drivers and the new ATi ones - especially in games! :D

    Have fun

Unfortunatley, the control panel doesn't work, so just download the regular drivers. It really doesn't matter if you install it with or without the control panel, that only works on desktops.

I appreciate your compliments and you are welcome! :)

You could do it either way, but I suggest uninstalling the old ones before you install the new ones, that way, there's less chance of problems. ;)

If you want you can also download the actual 5.8 mobility drivers from ATI's site. If you have .NET framework installed you can install these drivers and the Catalyst Control Center will even work. I just got done installing them on my Ferrari, for some reason the new Omega drivers are not all that great.

Yeah just go ahead and download microsoft.net( www.microsoft.net) then on ATI's homepage look for the 5.8 cat. driver for windows xp link. just download the drivers to urr notebook and it should run WAY faster. Installation's cake should take no more than 3-4 min total..
