you may need to clear the bios, if you look under the ram sticks there should be two tiny contacts on the mainboard; they may be underneath a sticker. Remove any power sources and short out these contacts for at least 10 seconds, this should clear the bios and may allow the cpu to be detected.
-
Also the latest BIOS if you dont already have it
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5100/bios/Bios 3.05.zip
The readme for the file mentions support for revision G CPU's so there shouldn't be a problem. -
ive cleared the memory but it still comes up in bios amd unknown processor
but in bios it does say 2200mhz and my latest bios is v3.05a
but still cant understand why it comes up unknow ,anyone else had this problem -
its says in the bios download read me file update to bios version v3.05b if you have a non-tk53 cpu. i have v3.05a so maybe this is my problem can anyone help me out plz ,and what is a non tk53 cpu
-
a tk-53 is a model of CPU, you dont have one so you need bios v3.05b. I'll have a look to see if i can find the bios update.
***edit***
I've just looked on the acer csd site and checked the bios version that you have; it says that when the bios is being installed it checks which cpu you have and will install the appropriate bios version for your system.
Do you still have your old cpu? if so you could try reinstalling it and reflashing the bios with that cpu installed in the hope that the bios will detect your new cpu properly.
Although i do have a feeling that your cpu is being detected properly but they have left out the models of the cpu in the bios data. -
ok but what if i upgrade and its the wrong one anyway hope you can help me hairy lee
-
i'm just downloading the latest bios and i'm going to look through the files to see if there are multiple bios in the distribution
-
but i upgraded when to 3.05a when i had my old cpu in
-
could i not run the bios update agian with my new cpu in i dont reallywant to take it out
-
OK, thats the problem you have. The v3.50 bios package has both the revision A and B bioses. Obviously you need rev B.
Get winphlash HERE
Install winphlash.
Open winphlash and select the option that involves you flashing the bios. You then need to browse for the bios file that you want to install; in this case you need to go to the windows folder from the bios update you downloaded and locate the file called CW51305B.WPH; this is the bios file you want to use for your bios update.
Click ok or whatever button it has for flashing the bios and let the process finish; this should install the correct bios for your unit.
Also bear in mind that if you are running winphlash in windows Vista you will need to run the program as an administrator... Good luck! -
im on windows xp not vista and im not confident in doing this anyway is the winphlash the only file i need to downoad and install
-
the only program you need to do perform the operation is winphlash, its a program i use at work to upgrade the BIOS's on units. I think the problem here is that the BIOS was updated before you put the new CPU in which meant that the updater was unable to select the correct BIOS for youre CPU.
The program should work fine as long as you take your time and read everything carefully before you flash the BIOS. The program is quite straightforward but if you wont feel confident about doing this and the CPU works fine in windows then i dont see there being much of a problem really. -
have u a msn messenger would be better to help me on there ive got the winplash screen so what do i click on now
-
the CW51305B.WPH file is in c:\windows\temp\winphlash
-

-
i was just about to post up an image of the process you need to go through, was there any specific message or did it just fail?
-
can you post the image plz i may be doing it wrong
where it says specify new bios file i went to the CW51305B.WPH file then clicked on flash bios but wouldent do it comes up bios update failed -
i need to get it from 3.05a to 3.05b
-
any chance of the image lee .thanks
-
im fine now lee i unticked verity bios image size and bios checksum in the advanced settings then run flash and 3.05b now installed and my turion tl64 now shows up in bios but core speed still shows up as 789mhz should it not be 2200mhz
-
your CPU is throttling, don't worry about it. when you need the power, it will be there.
-
its ok sorted now ive found a program called speedswitchxp where you can set the cpu to max performance and it works but im not going to use it all the time as it will probably make my cpu much hotter
upgraded my 5102 cpu but comes up unknown unknown processor
