This is a total pain in the ass... I been trying to find 2 gigs of memory for this Acer 5100 Aspire labtop.... apparently it seems that the specs are OEM to acer only... wtf... I purchased 2 gigs of Corsair "Value Select" brand 2 gig DDR2 and the computer was constantly locking up, blue screens of death, and other f'ups.

Can someone read this CPU-Z dump I did on this laptop and recommend me some decent memory that isnt going to crap out.

I dont get how in 2007, a computer company can sell memory that is apparently: pc2-4300 at 266Mhz, thats just f'n awful... thanks New Egg.. for hiding this spec.

I should have canceled this order, luckily it wasnt my credit card it was the bosses... but working with 512k of memory is terrible.. I need an upgrade that will work flawless..ASAP!

Thanks in advance for your help on this matter acer community.

Newegg didn't misinform you of anything - that is DDR2-533 (266mhz) DDR/DDR2 400 runs @ 200mhz bus speed as reported by BIOS -
Kingston is great for having OEM specific Memory, www.kingston.com probably has your make/model of laptop and will give you the part number that you need to order - Otherwise I would stick with OCZ

DDR2 (Double Data Rate) memory runs equivilent to twice the actual speed of the memory. Therefore, the Corsair memory that you bought was fine in terms of clockspeed, because 533/2 = Roughly 266. The memory you have recieved may have been bad or damaged, in which case you should be able to return it and select some other memory. Corsair memory is generally very good and will work almost all the time, however, it may be better if you went with a different brand, like Crucial, Kingston or G.Skill.

If you are still not sure, try using Crucials memory advisor tool on their website, and that should give you the exact details of which RAM specification you require.

I have a question regarding chipset, let me post it here because I don't want to open a new thread just for it.

My Aspire 5112 is part of 5110 series and mine and DeadFish's notebook /Aspire 5100/ use exactly the same drivers.
On driver download page for Aspire 5100/5110 http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5100.html there is a ATI chipset driver for ATI X1100 and CPU-Z is showing:
    Chipset & Memory
    Northbridge ATI Xpress 200 (RS480) rev. 10

EVEREST Ultimate Edition 2005 is showing exactly the same thing:
    Field Value
Motherboard Chipset ATI Radeon Xpress 200, AMD Hammer

This confuses me,can somebody please explain do I have ATI X200 or ATI X1100 chipset???

I believe the chipset that you have is based on the X200, so it will appear in some programs as the X200 and in others as the X1100. Its nothing to wrry about.

Ok Zero thanks, I hope this is true.
I hope I will find a program which shows the accurate information about my chipset just to make sure.

Deadfish, you will be wanting some PC2 4200/4300 memory. It runs at the equivilent frequency of 533 MHz, and an actual clockspeed of 266 Mhz. It also needs to SODIMM, 200 pin memory. If you are still unsure, try use Crucial's Memory advisor, linked below:
