I have an Acer Aspire 5920G which was packaged with a T5250 1.5Ghz processor. I would like to switch that processor out with a T7700 2.4Ghz processor.
I think this is possible, they are both Socket P and Acer packages what I think is the same notebook model now with a T7700. It doesn't look like cooling will be an issue either.
However, I've come across some facts that seem to be problems: the two vary in die size; the T5250 is 111mm^2 while the T7700 is 143mm^2. The 7700 is from the Merom family while the 5250 is from the Merom 2-M family.
Are these complications an issue? I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who's tried this.
Thanks in advance.

hmm good point! not too sure about the chip its self but there are new CPUs (Peryn) drop in compatible with the santa rosa chip set coming in a few month's time (Q1 2008) so why not wait abit longer?

they will fit just fine, they are both same socket, same processor family
and you will see a good speed boost with a 900mhz clock increase plus double the cache -
PM to badabing .he know how to change CPU,coz he already did it

But to keep adding to your question: the 2 cpus are interchangeable and you will have no problem installing the T7700. -
Thanks for your help everyone i'm glad to know that the two are compatible. I have heard of Peryn, but how much faster are they than the current Merom processors? I'm more concerned about speed than battery life. I'm also confused over what 65nm refers to concerning a processor I read on wikipedia die size was measured in mm.
