Hey guys, as you may have seen allready the other day I made a purchase to upgrade my cpu to a T9300, today I decided to attempt to upgrade my gpu as I found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/nVidia-GeForc...raphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW?hash=item3efd4898b8 (9600m gt for £109), by the way I am aware of the bios isue and needing a hdmi connection to begin with! but now I thought that seen as I done all this allready that I mayaswell make it a clean sweep and go for a faster hdd whille I'm at it :D

But what I would like to know is, would I be able to install a new coppy of vista on to my new hdd then install empowering technology and then use the back up image that I have allready created on my external hdd so that I would'nt have to mess around with installing every single one of my programs, apps and games again? as it litteraly takes me about 2-3 days to get it the way I want it (recently took it back tio factory default btw and it was a nightmare lol), or is there a better way to go around it?

hope this make sense, thanks for any help in advance

Buy a hdd imaging program like Acronis True Image and clone your drive.

Cloning your drive is essentially creating a bit-for-bit copy of what's on your existing hard drive.
This copy would probably go on an external hard drive first, then get pasted onto your new hard drive.

(and why on earth are you still running Vista? 7 is where it's at, man!)

Why dont you try the HD4650 while you are at it? :) Gives better performance, its only a bit more expensive.
    It atleast gives no problems!

k I've figured out about cloning the hdd, after watching a few youtube vids about it! seems quite simple realy, thanks for the heads up on this one guys looks like it will save me plenty of time and effort

@ tehsuigi yea your right man, I think I do need to switch OS, no point spending all this cash on upgrades just to run them on an inferior OS :D

So yet again I have been browsing the net for the best deal I could find and this is what I have come up with http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Windows-7-Hom...ting_Software_Software_SR?hash=item3efe341570 but what I would like to know is, will this work for me? and what other isues will/may I run into upgrading OS?

Btw I think I will be using the inplace upgrade option as like I said earlier in this thread I recently rolled back my machine to factory default and spent days - weeks getting everything back the way I wanted it. But if there is any major problem with this method again I would like to know.

thanks for the help, and sorry to keep bothering you lol

Not really - I performed an in-place upgrade once, going from Windows Vista to the 7 Release Candidate. Everything worked just fine, if I remember correctly.

Besides, once you're set up, you should stop using the Acer recovery DVDs.
Windows 7 is good in that it allows you to make both a file-based backup AND a system image.
I personally back up my system every weekend - C: as a system image, and D: as a file backup.
