Since you laptop model does not have vista drivers on website

have you load vista you hardware seem pretty stander shound have enoght drivers in vista to make you machine run then you can see what missing and not working so we can figure out what drivers you need or missing

your chipset drivers will be intel.com

wireless shound be atheos or intel

audio drivers will be avaible on http://www.realtek.com.tw/

just a word of warning slyfirth, before you install vista do a complete partition backup of your hdd! Use Acronis True Image 7 which is FREE!

    Download it here - http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7

Do that and burn your stuff to CD / DVD / external HDD and then go install vista from scratch (don't do an upgrade).

Acer does have some Vista drivers available on their Chinese support site. I have not yet found any on the Europe or PanAM sites. This link will give you the list of laptops on the Chinese site.

    http://www.acer.com.cn/driver/notebook.asp?a=d32
Select your model then select Windows Vista.

I have an 8204 and have loaded some of the drivers found here. The orbicam driver (logitech) works great. I had problems with the one loaded by Vista but this one seems to be much better. I also had good luck with the bluetooth drivers on the Acer site. I uninstalled the previous bluetooth first though.
I already had the Realtek and ATI drivers from their sites so did not load the ones on the Acer site. I have not tried the Intel AMT driver there yet either.

On the other issue of Vista in general I agree very much with SSX4life. I would make an image of the drive for sure before doing any upgrade. I would actually advise to create another partition and load Vista on it and keep your original XP partition. You will be able to boot to either XP or Vista this way. I have been running Vista since the early beta2 but always installed it on another partition from XP. You may find a need to have your XP system for a while until all programs are updated to work with Vista. There are several programs out there like partition magic that allow you to resize partitions to prepare one for the vista install.
