I have an Acer Aspire with the Acer Arcade software. It works OK so i would prefer not to risk casuing any problems by installing any 3rd party software.

I understand that i can copy my dvds (ones that i actually own!) to my hard drive and watch from the hard drive instead (beats carrying around all my kiddies dvds whilst we are away).

    1. is this legal. If not, there is obviously no point answering the rest of the post since i will not do it. I have seen other posts talking about this suggesting it is ok to do if you actually own the dvd you are copying.

    2. how do i copy the files - is it just a case of copying the Video folder - if so, must it be saved to a specific location

    3. do i need to do anything to the files to be able to watch them (are they still decrypted)

    4. How do i actually run the movie - which file do i double click

    5. Does the Acer software even let you watch movies from your hard drive.

    Thanks

I use 'DVD Shrink' to rip the movies from the disc to HDD.

Im not sure about the legality of the process. You own the data, same as software you are allowed to make copies for backup.

I dont use Acer Arcade much, and I dunno whether it will be able to play movies from the HDD. I use Cyberlink's "Power DVD".

with the power dvd software all you do is click on "choose sourse"/"browse files" and find the video file and open the first file. easy as pie

I dont think you should be so uptight about how legal it all is. Its not like youre going to upload the media onto the internet or sell DVDs of copied files in a market are you.

    ...are you? lol

haha.. i agree... and, for ripping your DVDs, if you have the money you can buy the nero suite of software, there is this package that allows you to rip DVDs and use normal players to play it. Quite a good software, easy to use.
