    hi,
im at my wits end with this recently aquired laptop.

all seemed well until i started playing games/progs, and then at seemingly random intervals (seemed to be approx every 10 to 15mins) the onscreen action would freeze for a second and then the screen brightness would increase to full.

i disabled adaptive brightness, still happened.

i then uninstalled epower, still happened.

i then uninstalled as much factory installed progs as i knew was safe to do so, still happened.

i think (but im guessing) it may have something to do with the hd coming back to life after periods of auto switching off, but why does the hd coming out of suspend turn the panel brightness to full ? (and cause running progs to splutter for a moment)

i might be able to avoid this prob if i set the hd to never spin down in the power plan options, but that will cripple my battery life ?

this prob seems to be much worse on battery power, could it be the processor taking a nap during periods of low demand and then causing mayhem as it steps up again when the load increases ?

i am at my wits end, especially so cos i can find no info/drivers to put my beloved xp on this 5741 laptop.
