The SOSW-833S is a standard slimline (half inch) optical drive and, in principle can be replaced by most other slimline optical drives. The only issue is whether your present drive is set to master or slave. However, provided your computer has a secondary IDE channel (check in Device Manager) both versions will work. There is a small minority of computers with only one IDE channel, in which case the HDD is master on this channel and the ODD has to be slave.

Usually, the ODD in your computer has a face plate (bezel) which is specific to your computer and a fixing bracket to hold it in place. Both of these can be removed and transferred to the new ODD.

I won't recommend any brands because I don't know where you are. The choice of replacement slimline drives is limited in some countries. However, I would recommend avoiding Matsh!ta, which seem to have more problems than most. If you are interested in multi-regional capability then visit rpc1.org and see which drives are suitable.

I put a SAMSUNG SN-S082D in my Acer Aspire 3680 and it works fine. Simple install, one screw on the bottom releases the drive, remove and reinstall bracket with two screws, insert new drive and secure screw. BIOS reconized it no problem.

Some discussion on this drive and where to get it:
