not trying to be a dummy but I have a question?
why buy a new computer then the first thing start to "upgrade".
doesn't it cost more to do that than it would to just buy what you want in the first place?
I see all the time where someone says they bought a new computer and are going to put in a new hard drive or other costly upgrades or are going to overclock or................
is it just a hobby thing or can you get more computer for the money that way?
[ I am not trying to be funny here, I just don't know. ]

Actually sometimes you are mostly paying for the service, Not specifically the part that you are putting in the machine. I'm buying a computer and putting my own new hard drives in it because it is much much cheaper, and pretty simple to do

You can't do many upgrades on notebooks. But if you mean how people buy memory upgrade options later, you get much more computer for the money. 4 gbs of memory may cost 200 dollars to upgrade when you buy the computer new. If you upgrade yourself, it costs 60-70 bucks. I suspect hard drives are the same way. Not to mention the rapid rise of tech in computers. If you can wait a year or two, you can get twice the computer for the same money. Same goes with components. If you got the 4 gbs of memory or a larger faster hard drive a year ago, you paid 400 bucks. If you got the basic stuff and upgrade to the same stuff now, you pay 50 bucks to have the same gear at the end.

ill tell u in a easy example...
upgrade from 2 to 4 gigs in hp dv5t is about 150 us
u can get 4 gigs of ram in compusa or newegg for about 50~70 us..
u getting the point?
u will save a bunch of cash in stores like HP, dell... if u buy in xoticpc the difference wont be that much... but here is a BIIIG gap in prices
why buy new then upgrade?
