    hi there :)

i happen to have an acer 1690wlmi with a 1.5ghz centrino in it and 2 x 256mb ddr2 pc3200 ram but i have spotted some (at least to me) weird stuff:

    my question now is:

    1. why is the ram only clocked 100mhz whereas it should be 200mhz? i think its because of the fsb:dram thingy that is set to 1:1 whereas it should be 1:2 i think to make the ram work properly. or is this normal?

    2. do i have to set the fsb to 200 and set the multiplier to x 7.5 ??? i mean it cant be, that acer sells a notebook in which one of the most important parts does not work as it is designed, or? my ram working with 100mhz instead of 200mhz plainly suxxx and i cannot believe that you have to fix this on your own. maybe i just believe too much in the good of men ;)
bios does not offer any options.

    3. can i insert ddr2 533 ram into this notebook? and how do i get to work the ram at the 533mhz (or better 266mhz x 2 ^^ )

    4. what is the difference between the 100mhz fsb and the 400mhz fsb or bus?

i am almost completely n00b in those centrino things, as i use an amd machine as desktop since several years, so i have no clue and need some1 to enlighten me :)

    thx in advance

    1. I dont really know, but if it aint broke dont fix it....
    2. the fsb actually runs at 400mhz, even though it registers as different.
dont worry about it. youd know if there was something wrong with that.
3.no, ddr2 has a different pin configuration, and is not compatible. dont we all wish it was......
    4. read my #2

    Hope that helps some
