hi all, new to this site so i hope you guys and gals can get me up and running.

recentley i purchased a acer 5810t, at the same time i purchased the windows 7 upgrade disks from acer, i got windows 7 up and running ok, the problem im having is when i go to use skype, it loads up ok but when i go to make or receive call/video an error message keeps telling me ''problem with recording device'', i telephoned acer who tried to direct me to there premeir line, but as i explained the laptop is only thre weeks old. any advice or suggestions will really be appreciated, before i take drastic measures which i might regret. many thanks in advance

I have skype running on my 5810T and it runs fine when just installed no settings having to be adjusted.

Have you checked you notebooks sound card drivers are ok, eg, playback/recording if not re-install from the Acer website.

Do you have the latest Audio and Cam drivers installed?
Have you checked the audio settings in skype? Does it work? If you speak, do you see how the volume bar changes? Do other audio recording software work? ...

The thing that comes to mind is what FrankTabletuser said, have you got updated drivers? Test it out on other software like he said.

Is the microphone working in other situations (e.g. web -chat)

    Is the mic selected ?
    > (right click on speaker/volume in tray),
    >recording tab,
    >right click > check show hidden devices ticked
What you you have there for microphone ?

I would recommend visiting Acer's support and download and install any driver updates for your system.
