I just got my new 8920 and with any new computer I do a full wipe and install vista ultimate only.

My question is, can I recover some parts of the software originally installed with the 8920, particularly the audio emanagement

    Dont care about anything else

!!make a recovery disk before doing anything else, if you haven't done so...currently acer ships their units without the physical disks, the actual information is stored on a hidden partition but acer allows you to burn it onto a disk, all the drivers specific to each notebook variant are stored on this disk. I find that the support site hosts only generic drivers for the whole line..knowing that this 8920 line has numerous variants, it'd be best to use the drivers included on the recovery disk specific to each model

BE SURE TO MAKE A SEPERATE

    DRIVERS AND APPLICATIONS DISK

since that is all you are concerned about... and it's easier to install the drivers and apps that way....

still you do need to make a set of FACTORY REOCVERY disks too,,, but from those i don't think it's as easy to pick and choose what to install,, i think they just do an entire IMAGE...

    Hi again Aleicgrant,

i did fresh install recently after getting my 8920G.

will you be using the ABR method? this worked for me.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

unfortunately i didn't backup all the apps as advised.

I downloaded the drivers and that i needed from Acer's FTP site.
whacked them all on a USB stick (SDHC card doesnt get detected -weird)

the only software im missing is the Arcade Deluxe - no big deal.

Just be aware u cant use E-audio management (or any of the E-XXX apps) without installing the Empowerment Tech Framework.

also using Realteks audio drivers does not enable the 5.1 speakers (i have no idea why)

EDIT: you need launch manager installed to get the multimedia touch panel to work.

i think i may have an answer to the issue in RED TEXT...

you must use the DRIVERS provided from ACER as they are CUSTOM modified to support 5.1 (or atleast that's how it works with the 6920 which also does 5.1 and has the "tuba bass"

there is an extensive thread discussing how the ACER DRIVERS are the only ones which support the BASS tube,, and also deals with the 5.1 sound issue...

search using the NBR FORUM SEARCH below... search for aspire 6920 SOUND BASS
see what pops up... it may find that link
