    Hi All,

I am trying to enable/install/setup wireless functionality on an Aspire 1355LC. The handbook says that the IEEE 802.11b WLAN miniPCI is optional on this laptop and that it should be installed/located either under the keypad or on the bottom side. I have checked and under the RAM cover seems to be the miniPCI module (!?!).

    Does anyone know:
1-- If the miniPCI module IS installed but NOT enabled on the Aspire 1355LC? If so, how can I enable it? There is no entry in the BIOS. Also, I have installed all the necessary software but when I launch the IEEE 802.11b WLAN miniPCI Utility nothing happens. If I launch the WLAN a+b+g mini-PCI Module, the application says that the adapter is not ready. If I push the WLAN button on the notebook it says "No device".

2-- If the module IS NOT installed, do you know WHERE it is possible TO BUY and HOW TO INSTALL it? (and by the way what is this card near the RAM slots then?)

ALSO, there is a similar situation with the Bluetooth module on this laptop. It says it is optional here: does anyone know how to install it (or enable it, if it's already on)?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
I am abroad and away from Acer tech. assistance at the moment and it will be v.good if I could sort this one out by myself, cheers.

If you checked under the RAM cover on your notebook, you most likely saw the ram module, not the wifi module. So your notebook probably doesn't have wireless installed. You can also check the Device Manager and see if the device is listed under the Networks section, if not, again, no Wireless installed. I don't think this unit uses
an MiniPCI module for the Wifi, but if they do, it might be under the keyboard.

You might be able to buy an WiFi module from Acer, or you can buy an external USB or PCMCIA WiFi card.

Bluetooth may come on the same card as the WiFi, so you're either gonna have to get it from Acer or buy an USB Bluetooth adapter.

Thanks a lot for your reply. In fact there is a small module (approx 3cm x 3 cm) right beneath the two RAM chips (256+256) which has a got "no radio interference" certification symbol and is connected to the mother board with a mini connector. If you think it could help I can send you a photo of the thing.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!
