I merged the 2 posts since it was cross posted to the Software section and had a slightly different question in each.
Most notebooks will not be able to run the drivers that are downloaded directly from the ATI website. These drivers are really designed for desktop cards and not mobility cards. BUT, you can run the ATI Mobility Modder utility from www.DriverHeaven.net which is capable of modifying some files so that it will allow the drivers to install correctly.
Here's the link:

Just so you know, I got an .NET Broadcast Error after installing the new Catalyst Control Center on my HP. I have also read reports of other people online (not specifically notebook users) that also had this type of a problem. I haven't seen a solution yet. I just installed the ATI Control Panel version, rather than the Catalyst Control Center version of the drivers (both available on the ATI Site).
The ATI Catalyst drivers v5.6 perform better than the 5.5 and definiately better than the older drivers. The modded 5.5 drivers I had in my HP with an ATI Mobility x600 w/128MB gave me a 3DMark05 of approx 1570, but with the new 5.6 drivers installed using the same settings, I got a score of 1611. I think that's a big jump for just a driver upgrade.

Hi
I know for a fact that the Omega drivers ( www.omegadrivers.net) work on the 5024, although i'm not sure how they perform against the official Catalyst 5.6 drivers.

thanks very much its a shame the drivers direct from ati prbably wont work, but thats life, ill give both sugestions a go.
however i dint mean the catalyst 5.6 desktop drivers but the ati catalyst mobility drivers designed to work on the x700 (on win xp) and above.

Wow, that's the first time I've seen that before. They never had a Mobility driver. That section usually said to contact the manufacturer for the drivers. But since it's out, you need to run the Installation Verification Wizard. I don't know how that'll install the drivers as it's only 1 MB, but it may go online and pull them down after it verifies that it's compatible. Again, it'll only work with specific system types (manufacturers). It's possible it may not work in your system, but it's worth a try. I'm sure the drivers will be the same as the standard Catalyst 5.6 drivers for XP.

nice, i supose i beter give them a go but ill make a restore point befor i do anything just in case somthing gose wrong

The verification wizard tells me that my lowly 5024 is not worthy of the majesty that is the catalyst mobility driver. Damned high and mighty software.

dose any one know if the bloke that dose the omega drivers will release modded versions of the mobility drivers so they will work on the 5024

Redfrog,
Why not just run the ATI Mobility Modder on the actual ATI x700 drivers from the ATI site. It'll install and should be the same. I did that for the x600 drivers for HP nx8220 and it works flawlessly. I used the one without the ATI Catalyst Control Center (got the Catalyst Control Panel version) and have not received that .NET error again.

For your information - but I did not yet try this myself:
On a dutch forum I read the following about the mobile catalyst 5.7 drivers on a 5024WLMi:
- this driver can be used to upgrade existing driver, not for clean install
- driver runs fine, in spite of diagnostic program saying it is not suitable
- you have to disable "control center" at install options

Hi, you don't even have to use the modder to install ATI's own drivers just do a manual update, some have had issues with the modder anyway. I've done this now 4 times and never had any problems, you'll need to run the control panel setup if you want that too....
ChrisC -
nice, ill give it a go
ps whats 2140 like as a 3dmark05 score for a laptop -
so what s the solution about drivers? Install last catalysts just without control center?
About 3D mark, I read some forums and heard that "normal" notebooks has around 1,4k maximally in 3DM05, but I don t know it for sure. Anyway, my desktop with P4, 2,5GHz, 512DDR RAM and ATI RADEON 9800Pro had just 2690 (!). SO, I think 2100-2200 is very nice for a notebook.
p.s. I had 2169 on Acer -
"INF error, video driver not found" and something about setting up my VGA to standard...
damn! even the mobility pack told me that it s not possible to install drivers on my pc....oh my god why???
help me plssssss.... -
Lubi,
Which method did you try, suggestion from link, ATI Modder or what Chriscatt suggested? From the link, I can't read it since it looks like it's in German, but I'm sre the Modder method will work and Chriscatt's method should work as well. When you get the INF error message when trying to install the ATI driver from the ATI site, it means that it can't locate the Hardware ID in the INF files. This is what the ATI Modder utility does, it puts in a compatible Hardware ID and this allows the drivers to install.

Theoption with modder works perfect! I must say, that graphic performance was increased from 2169(3DM05) to 2352! I think that is great...THANKS for help....however,I haven t solved the problem with my BF2

I downloaded the actual 5.7 radeon mobility driver + ccc file (32mb) from this url http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/
I also downloaded the modder program from driverheaven, not sure why maybe i didn't understand the modder instruction properly but the 32mb file from the above link installed without having to mod anything. However, the ccc didn't work and gives an initialisation error at start up or if i click on the icon. The driver did install and update though.
At first i downloaded the 1mb file which test if your laptop is suitable for the driver but it says mine was not suitable. I think this is the file which goes on to download the 32mb file form the link above after suitablilty test. Acer laptop was not on the list apparently.
However, I decided to uninstall ccc and the 5.7 driver and reinstalled the older driver form acer's 8100 video driver support which is the same driver version before i installed 5.7 as 4102 is not on their support site!
My laptop is TM4102 with x700 64mb. -
i just put the new catalyst drivers on my laptop useing the mobility modder and my 3dmark has gone up to 2353 which is brilliant, thanks

...but modder instead of HP!)))
