i installed xp on my acer aspire 5315, and it went really smooth.... the day after it was installed my mom was using it and she said it just shut down.... i turn it on... works fine
ok this keeps going on, and the only thing that i could think of is that it was auto updates..... i went through and updated it all....... than next day same thing
i was like oook... cant be a hardware problem.... my xp is a good copy...... hmmm ill get some software that tests the hard disks etc etc... it came back saying that the mobo was at 141c which is VERY high for desktops.... but this is my first laptop, so i dunno if that is normal for laptops to run that high
when i saw that i tested to see if fan was working... it was, but it was not spinning fast like it would be when it is overheating.......
anyone got an idea how i can set it to speed up on the fan? or do you think/know that it is another problem, other than that..
im gonna buy a cooling mat soon anyway, but i would LIKE to know that it will not overheat when i go to places such as my dads house
thanks

noone have an answer or run into a similar problem?
-
so i have decided to get a cooling mat, i am hoping that will help.... if not i see no option in bios to change fan speed, and the acer software is designed for vista, and the power management doesnt work
still no one that can help me?
-
ok, i got the problem about 75% fixed.....
i run cpucool and speed fan simultaneously and set it to keep the laptop at 45 degrees celcius....... it caused my cpu to run at 100% as long as that was like that... so i disabled the cooling to 45 degrees, and it left the fan running 100% for as long as it was on.... i ran it for 2 hours like this, put it into stand by, and than brought it out, and it worked magnificently still
if you have a similar problem, try this -
kairu67,
I also installed XP SP2 on my 5315-2153, and I'm also experiencing the overheat/shutdown problem.
I called Acer and they confirmed that if you don't load their ePower Management Utility then your computer will overheat when awakened from sleep/suspend. The s/w is necessary to control the cpu fan properly. Doesn't matter on the OS (XP, Vista, or Linux). They basically told me tough luck if you want to load another OS.
After spending about ~8 hours on the issue, I decided not to go your route with speedfan. I got Walmart return my Acer today. I don't want to support a company that builds a crappy computer with a buggy ACPI implementation. -
Hi Everybody
Sorry I am a bit late.
Bought the Aspire 5315 --- wiped Vista -- installed XP-- Lovely until the dreaded overheat/shutdown problem --- fans not turning
Download/install ePower mgmnt --- LOvely again
Cheers -
