    Just run this program and launch your game and it will have a FPS counter

    Download Fraps 3.4.2 free version

    by extra high, do you mean extreme or gamer?

    I'm running everything at gamer at 1600x900 with OC and getting 30 fps average. How are you getting so much more?

    That was in Crysis Warhead.

    I actually just broke down and bought Crysis 2. I was able to play it at 1600x900 res in "Extra High" with V-Sync and get an average of 35FPS. In Extra High settings I only OC to just under 700 Core Clock to get that FPS. I tried doing as high of a OC as the machine could handle and run it on "Extreme", Once I started fighting I couldn't get it to stay over 30FPS. It would dip down to 25FPS and hover at about 27-28FPS. I OC'd up to nearly 800 Core Clock to try and run at Extreme. I guess you could play it at Extreme and be alright if you didn't mind playing at an average of 27ish FPS during heavy combat. I just decided to play at Extra High so I wouldn't dip below 35ish.

    I will run the game tomorrow without V-Sync and see if I can run stuff at "Extreme" without a big OC.

    Well, I'm playing it with on 1600x900 on max settings. Not to sure about the exact FPS but according to the settings it plays over 80 FPS everything on "very high", which is max settings.

    thats the game I was referring to

    the highest settings are 'enthusiast' and the next highest are 'gamer'...which one do you use?

    I have everything set to gamer, except for shader, which I set to 'mainstream' and I get 40 fps with no action, dipping down to low 30s with action.

    If you guys would like to discuss framerate, I think the least you can do is add the specs of your M14x in your signature. This will stop that unnecessary question popping up every time.

    EDIT: I also think perhaps people should upload vids (whether filming their screen, or capturing the screen contents using software), especially the ones that are running on extra high settings.

    Here's your basic translation:

    Enthusiast = Very High
    Gamer = High
    Mainstream = Medium
    Minimum = Low

    but isn't that the original crysis?

    I have warhead, and the settings are different...ie instead of very high, high, medium, low...they have enthusiast, gamer, mainstream, and minimum

    Was wondering if anyone has tried World of Warcraft. Only saw one post addressing it and it was someone asking about it as well. Looking to get back to gaming with my son and thus the reason I am looking at the m14x and wondering about performance.

    Been awhile since I have played a FPS on a PC, however, I am considering picking up Portal 2 - but may just stick with the XBOX on that one.

    Thanks greatly!

    Sorry. I purposely tried searching for the threads prior to posting, as I know how much that can be annoying. But when I tried searching for either warcraft or WoW in the m14x threads, it kept saying no results available. Must be doing something wrong when searching I guess.

    Will go check it out thanks!

    I posted on this topic already about wow, but I play wow, and on the m14x i get 60 fps on ultra. However I suggest you play with a cooling pad. The reason being is not that the gAme is too demanding, but not demanding enough. I know that sounds crazy, but here is the reason. It gets Too hot at times and drops performance because it's not quite hot enough to boot up the fan into high. Sometimes I run another game in the background to boost the fan lol.

    red faction guerilla is runnng strng on very high, but solid on high. Great game to showcase my m14x to my parents. Now if I could just figure out how to get gta4 with high res I would be set.

    Oh also installed Gears of War which looks awesome with high detail. Great excuse to break outthe 360 controller for pc.

    GTAIV is a nightmare to get optimised. Even my desktop can choke on it for a split second or two now and then. It's just that badly coded. It's like someone chucking a bucket of vegatable oil in a Lamborghini's fuel tank and saying "Here, run on this!".

    Hey guys, I had a quick question that probably has been asked before, so sorry. If I was to get this laptop and the main purpose of it was gaming and watching some tv shows and movies, would the stock 720p screen be a better option? I know the higher res one is a cheap upgrade and will display more, but if I was to stick with the 720 it would increase FPS in games and not have to stretch if I wanted to play games in that resolution. What do you guys think?

    I'm curious to give Fallout New Vegas a try on Saturday (when I get to finally pick up my damn machine).

    It ran terribly on my M11xR2 cause of that damned optimus bug...

    ...again, I can't wait to see how CPU intensive my nerdgasm games run (Hearts of Iron series and such)

    personally i would not choose the 720p screen because is 200 nits brightness only vs 300 nits on the 900p that is a big difference forget about frames the frames maybe only 3 or 4 depending on the game

    Another idea is could it be the switch between the intel and the GT555 as more stuff starts to happen during the game? though im not sure the integrated gpu would be able to run it on "very high" from the start. Any help much appreciated.#

    EDIT: scrap this been looking on the LoL forums... its the game... so buggy.

    Hey, thats to say, if i use default factory settings (without overclocking) i'll have to open another application just to get the fan working otherwise m14x will overheat?

    No it's like wow does not use enough resources to tell the computer o ramp the fan into high, so it stays at a medium heat which effects performance. I run another game in the background to make the computer use more resources, thus ramping up the fan and keeping the laptop really cool. So, it's not that it overheats, just does not keep as cool as I would like simply running wow.

    I think fan activation is determined by component temperature. Low temps: no fan. Higher temps: fan works harder as temp rises. Super high temps: component shuts off.

    Use a program to monitor system temperatures while you play games. I bet the system is hotter while the fan is running.

    EDIT: Also look at the temperatures of more than just the graphics card. Apparently the CPU is what gets hottest in this system. While I've only heard the loud fan kick in while gaming, I don't know if that fan is for the CPU or the GPU.

    Well, I can now say that I have the Witcher running at hi testures and settings. Turns out updating my drivers from stock to the latest, via the updated inf file fixed that problem. Now I will have to re-download gta4 and see if the newest drivers addresses the optimus issues there. Looks like the people with m11x r2 had these same issus last year and they we subsequently addressed via driver updates, which they didn't bother to provide to us m11z owners.

    Thanks to you gurus here, that is no longer an issue.

    This is an issue with Adobe Air which LoL uses... I am not sure wo to blame but I would blieve that setting your 555 card to be on 100% of the time prior to gaming would help you.... mind you I have not tested this yet since my 14x doesnt come til next week but I have exp this before with my older clevo.

    I run it on a mix of med/high settings at 900p and it runs quite well. It is usually between 25-35 fps which is perfectly fine for a rts game. im gonna do a mild OC soon and see if i can get the min fps up a bit

    yeah OC the core to 700 from 590

    the fps fluctuates though...so my 28fps may not be accurate figure...it ranges in the high 20s to low 30s. not sure how revdiesel is getting 40-50fps on max settings when I'm playing on high and getting barely 30fps.

    hey, what resolution are you running crysis at? a lower resolution might explain why you're getting alot more FPS than me even though running at higher graphical settings.
