Thanks. Then I'll keep on searching.
On a second note what difference will be there between the 1gb gt 650m and the 2gb one? I am guessing the difference will only be noticeable if we attach a second monitor. And whether the 650m will be DDR5 or DDR3?
-
-
Probably resolution which those settings are applied on - 900p on M14x as opposed to 1080p on M17x
-
Well , I just placed my order for the M14X R2 with the following specs :
- i7 2670QM
- 6GB 1600 Mhz
- 1GB GT 650M
- 900p WLED
- 500 GB 7,200 RPM
SB is pretty good as it is
But hoping for a cool bonus in the way of IB anyway , LOL

It seems that internal communication isn't that great over at Dell. Just talked to a Dell rep who was just as surprised that I was that the new Alienware laptops don't ship with IB. The waiting times are also significant even on the current SB systems, so on the whole the timing of this refresh is pretty weird and annoying. Why didn't Dell wait a month instead until there's plenty IB + Kepler to go around? Not that Ivy Bridge is particularly important, especially not for a gaming laptop, but still.
-
If Dell would of waited on the R2, competition would of gotten all the sales for those seeking a laptop with the latest GPU.
When IB releases, consider it an M14X-R2.5
-
How do you guys think the M14x R2 will handle Skyrim?
I never had the R1, so I'm not too sure what to expect.
Run on High fine, but not so nice on Ultra? -
Good point. The ROG G55 with IB will probably arrive before both Alienware and HP's IB laptops though. I'll probably wait for an R2 2.5
but I see no reason to order now.
My guess is that it will run on Ultra minus 16x AF 8xAA. Maybe 4x AA/AF(?). Of course it's not really ultra then, but you'd need a side-by-side comparison to spot the difference. -
Don't quite follow your logic. Are you saying you will not order M14xR2 now because it doesn't say it has IB, and you think we will ship any current orders with SB and switch mid-stream to IB when it launches for sale?

Hi Bill,
I am a alienware customer in the UK, would it be safe to say that a certain unnamed component be included in my m14xr2 order if i purchase it now? Ive been following all the threads feverishly, its just im not sure the unnamed component will be included in the orders this side of the world.
If i do get any sort of wink or nod from you, I will purchase the system immediately.
Thanks! -
Any component upgrade program we may be considering would be for all regions.
-
Thanks Bill.
m14x r2 purchased. -
Bill I am very confused. I spoke again with a sales rep (who I think was in India) and he was 100% certain that current m14x orders would have sandy bridge instead of ivy bridge
-
It's good to see the sales rep is reading off his screen as he is trained. Suggest you reach out to Allan over on the sales assistance thread for your next quote.

I sent Allen an email on Wednesday, I guess he's really covered up with requests.
-
I don't know if I've ever seen more confused marketing and rumors flying rampantly. 99% of customers will say "What's Ivy Bridge"? and don't care. JUST WAIT FOR MONDAY!
-
Yeah. It's confusing alright, but seriously, our hands are tied here. Like I said to you the other day, if you're still curious, PM me Monday morning. I'll break it all down for you.
-
whats the point of a sales embargo anyway? Just to make sure all notebook makers/resellers have stock? Because it's not like we don't know whats coming, the NDA is lifted.
-
At 1600x900 and with a quad core, you'll be playing it on Ultra, easily. Just set 2xAA and 16xAF.
-
Nooooo damnn its sold out both in us and uk.......

Can't tell yet for GW2 because the game is not optimized yet, even on good computers it run like with bad frame rate for a lot of people because it's still a beta but yeah they will probably do a lot of optimization and then you should be able to play it on high / ultra
-
That's the first time I've ever seen an Alienware laptop sold out
The R2 is way too popular, wow. -
Sorry, but this item is no longer available for purchase online. Please contact your sales representative for details on how to order.
its odd thats what it says while trying to purchase spoke to some sales rep who told me to look out for monday as this was a error on the page, hmm new processor comning on or might just be an error -
I meant the original Guild Wars
-
Tsukurimashou Notebook Evangelist
Oh GW1? Yeah you should be able to run it on max settings I think even the R1 should be able to.
-
I think the 650m can run bf3 in high at 40, with that said i think it can run anything at good frame rates 40-60 at high
Currently:Macbook unibody 13.3 late 2008.
Getting a 6165 or a 6110 as soon as i see reviews when playing games! -
I'm with jpsm, with learning that the M14x is capable of playing just about everything I play on high settings at good frame rates I've found myself second guessing my decision to get an M17x. So I'll just wait until both are out, tested, and reviewed to decide.
-
aren't they both out...or are new models and updates expected to come to the m14x?
-
Tsukurimashou Notebook Evangelist
They are out but no one received one yet and there is still no review, I think we'll have to wait early / mid may.
-
My M14x R2 has just shipped! Over two weeks ahead of my EDD!
I ordered it with an i5 (SB), so I'm assuming that's why it has shipped early. Anyway, I can't wait
-
yes you do , for virtualization! even 16gb is less!!
-
Exciting stuff, it works out to be 1pm or 2pm gmt today, we'll see
-

Quote from the above link xD
"While theres a lot to be excited about with these new laptops, Ive saved the best for last. Those whove ordered one of these three updated laptops and whose orders havent shipped yet, well be upgrading your processors from second generation Intel Sandy Bridge processors to a comparably-priced third generation Ivy Bridge processor automatically!" -
Would be great if they updated sites outside of the US!
-

Just got the email from Alienware about the new processors and what not!
-
Out with the old and in with the new!
-
Is there no i5 variant available of the Ivy Bridge processors?
-
Not until June 6th I believe, which is why I ordered my i5 last week. Not too bothered about getting a SB processor, as long as I got Kepler.. and I couldn't wait until June!
Should be getting my R2 tomorrow
-
Man, for that price I'd like to get more than a GT 650M in the GPU department.
-
i agree, why can't they put a better GPU in there.
-
It's true ... For the same price/or less the Sager NP9150 has GTX 670/or 675 in it with all the same other specs and only 15 inches too.
-

People were already complaining about the 555m GT when it's not a bad video card at all especially for a 14" now they released the 650m GT it's more powerful and less heat and you're still unhappy, if you want something more powerful just buy a m17x.
-
anyone here ordered a m14x r2 before today in the uk?
I know the us orders are being upgraded automatically, but im not sure if thats happening with the uk, as i havent gotten my email yet
I selected the i7-2760 processor btw -
Tsukurimashou Notebook Evangelist
Well in the worst case you still have the 21 days return to get a refund and order it again with the good proc, but I think it will be updated like in the us, why don't you call dell to ask them? -
I did call, the rep i spoke to said that it will not happen, my laptop will ship with sandy bridge. when i referenced the post on dell direct, he said the us and uk systems are "completely different"
-
Tsukurimashou Notebook Evangelist
Yeah they are retarded, you should ask for a refund and re-order it :/
