Thanks for the tip. The Nvidia fact sheet contained several interesting revelations. I was thinking that Dell made a strange choice with the video RAM, but in fact it's two versions from Nvidia, of which the GDDR5 version only has 96 CUDA cores. Not only that, but that card also has a smaller 128-bit memory bus.

Still, if Nvidia had built the M14x version of the GPU with GDDR5 it looks like it would have been quite a bit faster. Perhaps they opted to throttle it so it shouldn't outperform the company's own GTX series.

I just ran the Furmark 720p preset, all stock (specs in sig)
    SCORE:758 points (12 FPS, 60000 ms), max 65*C

will report back after I mess with overclocking some

    EDIT
With 700mhz gpu and 1080mhz memory clock (nvidia control panel):
SCORE:897 points (14 FPS, 60000 ms), max 65* (max 68* running consecutively after that)

with the stock ram I Have (Hynix) at 1600 Mhz, mine runs about 19000 MB/s

    Not bad... ;)

My friends Tri-channel DDR3 on his desktop with 12GB of ram gets about 30K...

For a notebook I think we are pretty darn close ;)

Hi, I want to buy a M14x and I heard on the forums that the 2820QM will make no difference in gaming between the 2630QM. I know that people here have 2820QM and other have 2630QM, can you please test some games with the same config and same driver but only the proc different to be sure there will be no perf increase? I trust the NBR users but I just want to be sure...
So can you please run some game benchmark, like GTA IV, Crysis, ect, with the same drivers and the same res (no OC please).
Thanks in advance, I hope you'll can help me.

Thanks! Those numbers are really good! But sometimes you are getting good FPS on the bench but when you really play the game the FPS are lower than in benchmark, are you really getting those numbers in game?
Anyway thats amazing results, can't wait for my m14x!

I have a question to all you M14x owners. I currently own an Asus G53JW with an Nvidia GTX 460M in it. On 3DMark06 I'm getting 12584 which seems around some of these scores for the GT 555M. My question is if I decided to get an M14x, will I be sacrificing graphics power in high end games (most importantly upcoming Battlefield 3) with the GT 555M vs. my current GTX 460M?

It seems likes the specs are all higher on the GTX 460 but all the benchmarks seem pretty similar if not better for the GT 555M. Can anyone explain this?
    Thank you.

its just a benchmark at the end of the day 460 is more powerful than the 555m stock, but the overclocks and the sb processor helps 3dmark06 scores. Check 3dmark11 scores there is a larger gap there. Ultimately everyone of this forum has or wants an m14x. I am more than happy with my purchase.

My latest 3dmark11 score with 275 drivers

It really depends on your screen resolution. The m14x is 1600x900p, which takes a lot less processing power to crunch the pixels. If your Asus g53 is full 1080p, it will wear down the 460m to 555m level. However, if they both competed at the same resolution, the 460m would eat the 555m

A friend of mine has the g53jw - if you buy the m14x you will love the space on the sides of your new laptop - just look at the AC cord at the right side of your machine. Also, the g53jw is much heavier.
In terms of graphics you will go down A BIT, but not much. As the above had already said the m14x has lower resolution. The good thing is that you can carry your laptop around - with g53jw though...well, you know its not so easy.
What you should really consider though rather than the 460m vs. 555m is heating and fans - the m14x is louder and gets hotter than the g53jw. In the end the Asus has bigass exhausts.

Hey guys, love the forum. New m14x owner and loving it. Specs are on bottom (I made some adjustments). Running with my specs with no overclock I got a 1331 on 3DMark11. with MSI Afterburner I set the Core clock to 695 (synched with Shader clock), and my memory clock set to 1000. On the O/C setup I got a 1541 in 3DMark11. More than good enough numbers in my opinion, with a very stable O/C (this is a 14" laptop people, try not to forget that). Plus with my Zalman 1500 notebook cooler (GOD OH WHY DID THE CANCEL THE NZXT CRYO S?????????????) my GPU didn't go over 58C (checked after running the benchmark twice and the full program once). That's after putting windows in my new HDD (plus the 80+ updates) and the drivers, downloading everything, yada...yada...yada. I do have the sqeaky spacebar, but life will go on. Best built and looking notebook I have ever owned.

P.S. - IMO the bottleneck is the GPU, and with the quality of the SB processor, and the block they have on the CPU, O/Cing the CPU just doesn't do all that much for the possible consequences.

    m14x - 2720qm, 3GB555m, Seagate Momentus XT 500GB, 8GB HyperX 1600, 1600x900 :D :D :D :D

MSI Kombuster crashed for me running those settings after a few minutes. The best I got with a short 5 min test was

750/1080 which got me 140+ avg fps but the CPU started to hit 78+'C which is when the fan kicks into hair dryer mode.

I personally liked 700/1000 which got me an avg 132fps and the CPU stayed around 75-76.

GPU stayed a pretty constant 65-67'C when OC'd regardless of settings.

This is also sans laptop cooler, just had the backend perched up a bit.

700/1000 would seem like a stable clock then? :)

I don't mind a loud fan...but that can't possibly be ideal in the long run.

Please don't take this the wrong way but you really should Google "how to overclock" and the name of your chip. There is a risk, however reduced it may be these days, that you could damage something if you don't know what you're doing. By reading one of the many guides out there not only will reach the peak performance you seek faster, you'll also gain a better understanding of the whole process that you can apply to other machines in the future.

It's time well invested, believe me.

With my overclocked settings I am getting 15799 on 3DMark 06, the only thing I haven't seriously touched is my memory. I'm not sure whether I should. It's Kingston HyperX XMP stuff, I've set XMP to Profile 2 in the BIOS currently. I get a 7.8 on the memory in the WEI.

    3DMark 06: 15799
    - SM2.0 Score: 6447
    - HDR/SM3.0 Score: 6381
    - CPU Score: 5834

Thats just way too high for actual gaming though I hit 1872 at like 800 but I usually run at about 1865. Benchmarks like 3dmark11 are just numbers though fun to compare, real world gaming is what really matters

@MB67 - nice score, unfortunately it's NOT AT 1280X720 which is the default standard resolution that 99.99 percent of the m14 owners run 3dmark11 at.

Notice your resolution is 1024x600. So that answers how the score is 2607.

It seems that we have the same problem: Hardware monitor did not show the temps of the nvidia card on your pic. If you want to see it I think that you need to lunch cpuid harware monitor when the discret card is used bye an application.

    By the way: nice numbers!
