    I just bought Gskill 2x4GB ram sticks the specs say 9-9-9-28 , but cpu-z says i have 9-9-9-27 , on par with tthe hyperx on specs , without the heat sinks though

    I just installed this G.Skill RAM in my i7 M14x, it works fine out of the box at 1600MHz (no XMP profile needed).

    I know its kind of overkill, but would it be worth it to upgrade to http://www.ramexperts.com/corsair-c...4-pin-ddr3-so-dimm-1600mhz-laptop-memory.html I dont really run anything like adobe afteraffects or anything, but I never know if I might get in to it in the future, since Im still in school.     hi guys got the ram 2 hours ago stupid delivery people are stupid its in and up and running with i7 2670 registers and runs fine i havnt had time to run mem test yet but i will tomorrow along with various other benchmark tools.
    so to confirm 16gb of 1600 mhz corsair is plug and play full speed :D

    16GB is not so necessary unless you know why you need it. However this price is so LOW! Buy it!

    2-nd gen I5 does use such RAM.

    i have that ram and i just checked on intel if u have the i5 2430m then yes it looks like it is supported its nice to look at ur meters and see you have 14.2gb free of 16.33gb ram lol will you ever use all of it? no probably not unless your doing alot of video editing etc

    16 gigs of RAM is a waste of money if unless you somehow actually need it. Also decreases performance cause it has to search through all that RAM. A benchmark done by toms hardware showed that.

    Yes it really decrease performance because of high amount of allocated memory. It is not big decreasing though. I don't know but I believe about 2-3% maybe. But faster CPU is lesser percentage level decrease.

    But this price is SO LOW with 15$ coupon code...

    so I understand lower timming gives you better performance this 16gb vengeance is 10-10-10-27 how much faster and a noticeable difference would a 5-5-5-15 produce?

    Take timings in consideration, that will help you get a better quality ram module.

    I have read all this topic .Everyone said abt the Alienware M1 with second generation intel.
    I have alien ware m14x R2 its come with Ivy Bridge. I'm considering upgrade from 6gb to 8gb with Corair Vengeance

    But I saw the picture of that package its said Competible with I7 second ? how about the Ivy Bridge ?

    everyone is recommending and backing corsair in terms of RAM for the m14x without any actual information as to why that is. Why do you guys recommend corsair over kingston? Personally i like kingston better. Not only have they been reliable for years, but their feedback across all their products are higher than corsairs.

    Its what I have in mine. To get the spd settings to work right at ddr3-1600, set the ram speed to 1600 in bios (auto causes slower timings for some reason).

    No issues, and had it for almost a year :)

    running 16GB 2x8 Corsair 1866 in a m14xR2. had to set it to 1866 in the bios even though it is PnP and should do 1866 without prodding like my 8GB 2x4 HyperX kit did. either way Im now running 16GB @ 1866 and haven't had any issues other than having to set it in the bois.

    Kingston, corsair, it's all good really, though kingston now make a 2133mhz kit, so they have the speed crown for now.

    Any ram that is happy with sandy, is happy with ivy.

    where did you find a 2133 kit? you are referring to a notebook kit correct?

    EDIT: i looked a bit harder and found a 2x4 kit which I am buying now. Shame there are no 16GB kits yet @ 2133. I guess its back to dealing with 8GB for faster speeds. that is of course assuming setting the ram speed to 2133 in the bios actually works.

    The reason you arent seeing 16 gig kits is that its hard for them to make mem modules with that large capactity that can push those clocks. A year ago, it was impossible or very hard to find 16 gig kits that were specced to go to ddr3-1866....

    I know how it works with the capacity vs speed battle. I made the first review a week or so ago on newegg for the corsair 16GB 1866. i had been running the 8GB 2x4 hyperx 1866 and could never bring myself to buying 16GB until someone made it in 1866. I was ecstatic when I found a 16GB kit online and bought it that minute.
    I just bought the last 1 in stock from amazon of the HyperX 2133 kit. I bought the 16 of 1866 initially for VM's but I know i can get by fine with 8 as I did when it was and again is the fastest option.

    2133 compatible with the m14x r2?

    Also i ordered the 8 GB 1866 MHZ corsair vengeance set bc they had better timers than kingston but they're not working in my laptop even when changing from auto to 1867

    looking through the bios it looks like it is supported, at least it shows a 2133 option in performance settings. I have a 16GB 2x8 1866 vengeance kit running in my r2 @ 1866, though it did require setting it to that in the bios. I also have a 8GB 2x4 1866 hyperx kit which runs @ 1866 in my r1 with no bios settings. not sure what impact the CPU has regarding max ram speed but i got a 2820QM in the r1 and 3820QM in the r2.

    I ordered the kingston 2133 kit a few days ago and will update everyone here with the details once I get em and run some benchmarks.

    Though I think I'm limited to 1600 because of the memory controller of my CPU, and if I'm not wrong, you're too?

    According the Kingston and Corsair website it says 16GB is the max. But I'm sure one of the Alienware reps here will give you a more precise and accurate answer. Hope this helps for now though :D

    These are the highest validated configurations for both M14x's

    M14x R1 --> Up to 8gb 1600Mhz

    M14x R2 --> Up to 16gb 1600Mhz

    That doesn't mean however that you can't go further, it just means those were the highest configurations that showed stable results when tested.
