By the way you can buy it in uk. I've been chatting/talking and they will accept payment and ship the M18x.

    Too expensive for me.

I hate that there is no upgarde for the screen/display. I wanted the 3d option as well.

Rather than trying exhange rates (dollars for pounds), which is approx $4K for £2.5, I instead configged the exact same m17xr3 on both US and UK. Price was $1,499.00 for US and £1,498.99 for UK, so that being said I would expect the m18x, I configged with dual 6870 and 2820QM CPU for £2,548.99 to be $2,500.00 in USD.

UK m17xr3 (sample config priced at £1,498.99):

US m17xr3 (sample config priced at $1,499.00):

I have to agree. I don't know why the two new subforums are still not open.... I mean, how much more do they want?

Anyhow, still waiting for the 3GB 555 option to show up.

The mods have stated many times that until the laptops appear for sale on Dell US that the forum won't be changed. I'm going to assume it's something they can't do, rather than something they won't.

unless im high and im picturing something else. I didn't even max the thing out yet and I had like 3000 GBP as my total, and i used a converter and it said 5000 dollars.

Mhmm, i must be high... :\

According to the manager at Nashville, even though i've passed the 21 day limit, I can return my M17X R3 and just pay price difference for the M18X. Right now, im waiting for the email (just for proof/future reference) that he agrees to it, even though he told me over the phone he would. Then, I'd only have to pay 100-300 max, depending on the customizations, for the M18X.

oh man i want that m18x so bad... especially if 1 pound=1 dollar

i got all the mods i wanted including 2x 6970 and a 2820 for under $3000 with warranty, although warranty if different here then in europe.

if i get the US waranty i could get one with a 2920XM for that price. i might wait for the r2 so they can work out bugs and maybe incorperate a z68 chipset so IGP could be enabled... i guess we will see what deal i can get lol

1: 8mb cache is the most intel does in a mobile CPU.
2: It has very little impact on performance anyway.

Dell better come up with 485M SLI.
460M is powerful enough but outdated in someway.

Nope, the ClevoX7200 have a core i7 12mb cache, Intel Xeon and have bluray burner.
8 to 12mb cache increases performance 4 mb more to CPU process data.

    That's my opinion

    Tanks.

X7200 uses a desktop CPU, so Meaker was correct in saying that the highest cache is 8mb for mobile CPUs

I'm thinking this will be a very well balanced and designed machine. The only real leap is the screen size. I think the only issue you will find will be crossfire considering you can never be perfect the first time in any system. Really this is the real revision and successor to the previous m17x R2. I think if anything all the problems that existed in the R1 and R2 will be getting resolved in the m18x R1

Holy crap the upgrade to the extreme processor is insane...

I haven't even received the m17x R3 yet, but I'm considering returning it if the pound = USD conversion rate according to dell is 1:1 . I could get the same config on the m18x but with dual 460m for the same price, minus the 3D. Decisions, decisions..

It is effectively still a 445M which in turn is based off of the GF106 like the desktop GTS 450 video card.

It should perform much like the desktop GTS 450 but at a lower clock speed and 48 few shaders. If I was simply going to guess, I would take a look at the desktop Radeon HD 5670/5750 and place it in that ballpark.

It is just enough power for 900p gaming for the latest games but it will excel more at 768p with High settings. You will have to tweak it for the higher resolution display depending on the game. It is frankly the most powerful GPU you can place in a 14" machine. It outclasses the Radeon HD 6770M.

Really digging the m18x as a possible desktop replacement... i7 2630 QM + 6970M CF will last some time, and just go w/ newegg for SSD and RAM upgrades

Why? It might cost 2x as much as the 6970M but won't be much of a performance gain

It's weaker than the 6970M crossfire by a lot

It'd be nice if you could get the M18x with just 1 6970M rather than the 460M. Hopefully in the US, we will have that option.

Got links? I am interested. The GF106 core is a step up from anything based on Redwood/Turks.

On the desktop side you would be facing off the GTS 450 vs. the HD 5770. (800 shaders) The Juniper core is used for the 5800/6800M products but the 400/480 shader Redwood/Turks is the base for the 6500-6700M lineup.

I will admit though that the GeForce 555M is going consume more power compared to Redwood/Turks based GPUs.

What Meaker stated is false, the QX9300 has 12Mb cache, which BTW is a beast of CPU .

QX9300 is firstly EOL and secondly is going to loose to 2920XM, thirdly the QX9300 has 2x 6MB of L2 cache, where as the 2920XM has 1x8mb L3 cache, 4x512k L2 cache.

So yeah intel no longer does the qx9300 so what I said is true.

The only cpu they make with more cache for consumers are the hex cores for desktop.

But the cache per core is the same, 2mb shared l3, 512k l2, 64k l1.

EOL or not it is a Intel CPU, still used by a lot and as for 2x6Mb(which doesn't change anything) that is correct but still there are 12Mb.

Cheersit is going to loose in front of some SB but that is the point of tech evolution
