my adapter came through the post today. taking a quick look, it also has 5 cables for the usb, but the plug it comes with only has 4. the 5th cable is a ground cable, not an ariel cable.

i'll start work on shaving it down, will post pics later today. i have to aim for a specific size for the receiver and the adapter.

a quick update, i decided to connect the two things (mini pcie adapter and receiver) with an internal usb cable i spliced myself. i left the ground free for now - anyway, i fitted the mini pcie adapter into the space (seriously, hardly any room at all) but the devices aren't showing on my laptop. is the mini pcie slot even active?

if it were active, there should have been a green light blinking on the receiver. either way, i checked the bios to see if it could be activated from there, but no options there at all

should have asked this first thing, me thinks...

PS: the adapter is a little warm, so i doubt power is an issue...

EDIT: i think i could be getting the receiver pinout mixed up, hence why it's not showing up for me. does anyone have a diagram showing what cable from the usb header plugs where? i think i'm getting a cable plugged into the wrong port (on the adapter, the red cable goes into the ground plug, the green (which should be positive) goes into the negative, and the white vice versa)

    thanks in advance.

it's better i sort this out forst before trying to shave things down, so i know at least it was working before the pcb shrink.

    hey, terrible picture there :p

first off, do you have a multimeter? check whether you get any voltage (5V) on red - black. Also, for some reason I think that the cables you have there are somehow mixed up... Did you get that connector from the old cable that was there?

Do you remember which pins on the receiver board go to what color on the USB, I got 5 pins on the board and 4 wires plus the strand of metal wires around the sheild?

Ok so I tried Red Black Green White and im assuming that last pin to the right is the metal wire that surrounds the shielding, but did not hook that one up. I Dolfphin clipped the wires to the plug part and plugged it into the board. Windows reconizes that there is a usb device but doesnt install it auto, will download driver and see if it works from there, if it does then I will try and sauder to the pins directly on the board instaid of using the usb cable. One problem though is the Dophin clips get really hot, not sure if its cause i have it hooked up wrong or if because i shorten the cable from a couple feet to 3 inches lol.

All im trying to do is install this inside a reg PC instaid of having it outside, plus i think the usb cable is damage for the wireless reciever.

If the cord is being used as an antennae can't we run some of it out and coil it up into an actual antennae like on the wifi routers
where should i buy the push button
and did anybody actually get it completed and working properly
if so can we get a guide together

anybody though of possibly modding the controller to work on bluetooth?
    wired or wireless controller

that would be near impossible I think since you would have to add hardware support for the encryption used by bluetooth

True, but mapping keys sucks (had to do it for Halo: Combat Evolved with the 360 controller) and I immensely prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 one. All "Games for Windows" titles have native support for the 360 controller which is a HUGE plus

done it before don't like it besided i'd rather keep the ps3 controller charged for the ps3 seeing as how it has no changeable battery

and on another note i just want to tear apart something and bend it to my will

    is this mod dead?

I abandoned it sadly. I am sure others have done work with it though. There were a few promising members on here doing it or one similar themselves.

I was pretty excited about this... Unfortuantly I lack the manly-ness to actually try it myself without being able to ask questions from others who have done it :(

I am glad to announce I am resurrecting this!

Started the thread right before finals my senior year of college, made it hard to build momentum haha. I should have all the needed parts and will look into getting this back up and running!

Wattos, be warned, you will most likely get PMd during all this lol

i know this is may sound stupid.
do you really need the button on the receiver?

i have owned the receiver for over a year, and never once used it.

I am looking at my parts now, I will need a new express card I think, I had a smart card reader and it is not roomy enough I think. Will have to see what I can do.

If the button is the problem, why not solder two thin wires and place the button somewhere outside, i'm sure we'll find a spot for it(doesn't have to be a big button).

The button is not a huge concern for me, that is easy to fix. The main challenge is just getting the receiver board and DC-DC converter properly installed into an expresscard.

Not to dig up an old thread but I am going to try this out. In addition to the 360 receiver I am also going to attempt to mod in my Logitech G930 receiver as well. Was anyone ever able to make this work?

People got it working but found that the wire in the receiver acts as an antenna as well and removing it greatly reduced the wireless range for the controller.

Ok. Will look into that. Maybe running wires along the side of the express card cage?

what about wrapping the wires around a piece of metal to create an antenna and mount it to the express card?
