Get GPU-z and just check that Dell sent you a system with the correct GPU.

Do you own the 3D version or the non-3D optimus version? Have you downloaded the correct nvflash version?

So are you dragging the nvflash.exe in, then typing -4 -5 -6, then dragging the vbios of your choice in? Remember the -4 -5 -6 are essential.

im dragging the nvflash.exe typ typing -4-5-6(space) then dragging the 92 bios.

    Says exactly like this.

Hmm... run cmd as admin, drag nvflash, space -4 -5 -6 space drag new vbios. A message should come up like the one you are getting but it should also ask you to confirm. Perhaps try it again and just press "y" when the message appears?

Yupp thanks alot.. my bad missed the spaces between the -4 -5...... Now it says 0.92.... but the throttling issues still there tho.. :( trying 3d marks vantage down in 1fps... i repasted the gpu having the new heatsink... this really blows...

What are your temps? We can't really fix the throttling if it happens @77C.

In GPU-z monitor the graphs and run Furmark. If your GPU can maintain full clocks all the way up to 78C then we've fixed the first throttle.

PS Is there a reason you are using the 92 vbios?

Ok well the power throttle is fixed. The 78C throttle is tricky, best way is to prevent it. Attempt a repaste again, prop the back of your laptop up for better airflow. All these help.

Anyways, calling it a night. 2AM here :D

This is great work, I tried it and it worked great but... I OC my 580m and what happens is that it throttles back to 620 every few minutes in far cry and i can also watch it during a run of windows system index. You explain how you got around the throttling and this is 'working as designed' but is there any way around this?
    Thanks,

Yeah you have to read the whole post including the section on overclocking. You need to overclock P0, hit apply, then overclock P1 and hit apply.

    Hello all :))
Widezu69 you can modify the latest bios for AW_06.A01 the following clocks?
    -P0/P1 0.87v. 750/1750 clocks (875) / 1500 and
    -P0/P1 0.88v. 750/1750 clocks (875) / 1500?
I wonder whether the particular voltage 0.88vi clocks to eliminate jerking stiff graphics :))
Defaults voltage contrast works well, zero suppression (hiccups) :))
    Please :))
With advance sorry for my English, I use the translator :))

There is only 0.87 or 0.92 nothing else. I can't do you one until the new version of nibitor comes out but as soon as it does, I'll be taking orders.

    cool :))
because the clocks are working 0.92v voltage up to 800MHz, but I have such a light tug on graphics: ((
at 0.87v zero distortion at 750MHz, but already I have artifacts: ((
again tugging at 0.88v graphics but no artifacts or not the best
I wanted to check on rigidly clocks in the BIOS but I see the need to wait for NiBiTor :))
Thank you for your reply :))

    no problem :))
    Describe it in your example.
Alien M17xR3 ordered a Radeon 6990M with the board.
After a month of e.bay ordered a card with GTX580M Eurocomu Clevo VBIOS :))
Then I put the latest VBIOS from Dell and playing guitar :D
Optimus works perfectly, while the heat sink fits perfectly with the 6990M
You have to see in yourself that you have the heat sink with 3 copper pipes.
You probably do not have one, also be prepared to purchase the heatsink

Look at the link in my signature for the 580M Throttling fix. The opening post has information you are looking for, as well as a link to another post with additional information. It is easily done.

You can also pick up pointers in the M18x Benchmarking thread that you can apply to your single 580M setup.

Guys I need help. I'm pretty sure I'm facing throttling problems whilst playing fear 3, the gpu usage jump to 99% shown on nvidia inspector.

I followed the steps but got stuck at:
Hit go and it should create a bootable DOS drive.

At this point I keep getting the error:

specific device currently used by other applications problem

I tried solving this by getting apps like unlocker and lockhunter but the problem persist. Next I tried rebooting while the thumb drive(2gb in size) is still connected to the pc.

Is it right to install the HP stuff on the memory stick? Solutions?
    ---
edit: I managed to solve it...Thank you for the guide but I do wish it's more noob friendly like clear sentences(I got confused by the meaning of: stick it in the drive) and step by step picture would really help a lot more. After 12 hours, 20 dls and some apps that's unnecessary, I managed it somehow.

Repaste, and elevate the back of your laptop. You just need to keep your temps from reaching that.

I simply do not experience this thermal throttle issue and I only see it mentioned on R3 threads. I'm not sure why it's different with your system on a single GTX 580M display adapter. To the best of my knowledge, the video cards are identical. I can intentionally stress out my cards and take them over 90°C and cannot get them to throttle at all. I think I could push them to the point of thermal shutdown and they still would not throttle. Is the vBIOS firmware different? (Reference this post for an example.)

    Widezu69, any thoughts on this?
HWiNFO64 or SpeedFan should work for you. See link in my signature. There is no real way to do it with native apps. The GPU fans are essentially operated the same as system fans, so nothing in AMD CCC or NVIDIA Control Panel will enable that functionality. Laptop GPU fans are not controlled by the display adapter as you would expect on a desktop PC display adapter.

Widezu, many thanks for the 580.rom

Burnt on to GPU after noticing my clocks dropped to 475mhz when running furmark 1.9.1, was as easy as you said, although it does make your heart race when you give it the go.

Clock now stays at 620mhz and after 10mins temps got to 70c and looked like it had flat lined at that, although that is with a coolmaster under my M17x.

Once again many thanks, every 580m owner should do this, it's painless, well almost.. :)

    Hello,

    Edit:

Found the files and I think installed them correctly. Still have the 77 degree throttle :(. Is there anything that can be done about that aside from physically cooling the laptop?

Also do I need to do anything with the P8 and P12 levels?

    Thank you,

Raise the back of the LT by about 3cm (1 inch) to allow air to get under it. That should drop the temps a few degrees.

    Hello,

I called alienware support and it seemed my mobo and heat sink needed to be changed.

Today they changed it, and although the thermal problem still exists persists its much better - now it lasts about 3-5s before up to a minute. The tech guy also repasted everything but said that I should probably get a paste designed with OC in mind to keep it even cooler.

    Thanks,

ive just used FurMark for 21 mins 1920x1080 burn-in test my (max temp was 66) fps min 10 max15 avg 11 i dont know if thats good or not any info would be very nice to hear.

I flashed the modified A08 bios and did the blind flash trick and my card no longer throttles but once it hits 78C it will instantly cause the GPU to shut off the LCD and you can hear the fans wind down and the computer is basically in a frozen state.

I have already re-pasted the GPU twice with 2 different thermal pastes (shin and MX3) and neither are able to keep the temps under control with furmark.

Is there a possibility that I somehow got the old heatsink? My machine was delievered last week and built at the end of Dec.

    Thanks.
