Any idea on physical size of the 750 - seeing as it's probably less than 12 mm?

... sorry, misunderstood. Are all laptop drives the same dimension with varying thickness?

Here's a Crystal Disk benchmark. Not very fast, but certainly not slow. Having 1TB of storage is really nice.

Is it basically just for "storage" as in movies, music, pictures... or can you actually play games off it?

I install all my games and important programs on the SSD RAID setup, but smaller things like CPU-z or other small programs I use, I'll install on the 1TB drive. It can be used like a normal HDD, but I use my 1TB as a storage.

I'll get back to you on that, SE. When I had my 5,400RPM 750GB HDD a few months back, I could not play anything off of it. And I was playing some pretty old crap...as in CS:S, AOE2, and WoW. There were small pauses now and again, like the HDD was being accessed by the laptop. I've got the Cysis 2 beta. I'll run it off of the HDD and see how it plays. I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

You want a bit of pressure on the caddy because the SATA connector on the HDD, and the one on the laptop don't engage 100%. The further down you can get the HDD, the better. The caddy isn't exactly sturdy, either. You could bend the tabs down a bit, and then bend them back up if/when you get another HDD.

Not sure I understand you SE. I already have the 1TB installed and running just fine. No problems so far, and I've transported it many miles since the install.

Also, I ran Crysis 2 beta from the HDD, which is a 5,400RPM drive, and it ran fine. The loading times were not bad at all, and there were no hang-ups.

What I was trying to say is a 5400rpm hdd fast enough to run games... Or if it's just good for storage... Cause if it's mediocre then I'll just get myself a 7200rpm hard drive at 750gb.

Planning to get me an intel 160gb xm25

Why don't you install/run the games on the SSD and keep the 1Tb as storage, why would you want to run games on a magnetic if you have a SSD?

Because for example, i got hawx 2, just cause 2, css, tf2, WoW (i think it hit 16gigs now?) etc etc installed that im currently playing... 160 gig dissapears quite fast you know xD
Im not a person who plays 1 game only and plays it to the end or rather trys to beat it as fast as possible... I play 3 games and beat them slowly.
Also, now-a-days games are getting bigger and bigger...
What i think im going to do is install them on the SSD, and then once beaten ill take the save folder (of the game) and just transfer it onto my storage and whenever i want to play that game (new dlc or wtv) ill just reinstall and transfer the save back ;)

Do you guys think it would be possible to use a dremel (carefully) to remove part of the HDD casing directly below the tab instead of breaking off the tab?

I really don't want to break a piece off of my new laptop and if you are careful there should be no problem.

For the guys that didn't do it yet for their M17x R1/R2, well there's no need to mod the caddy anymore to fit a 1Tb HDD in the 2nd bay as:

Samsung introduces 1TB Spinpoint M8 mobile hard drive

    9,5mm / 1Tb / SATA 3 / 5400rpm / 129$

    I know, i know SATA 3 but 5400rpm :(
even M17x R3 guys can fit this one in now :D
