Hey guys I was wondering of the 3610qm is enough for maxing out games now and the foreseeable future . Also if it runs RAM at 1600 mhz and not 1333. I remember the old sandy bridge base CPU had that problem. Thanks.

I believe that it runs 1600MHz RAM at 1600MHz and not 1333MHz, so it should be fine. Also spoke to a bunch of reps who actually suggested that it was better to go with the 3610qm and max out other aspects of the laptop itself. Apparently the performance difference between the 3610qm & 3720qm is minimal in everyday/gaming situations so if you're trying to save the extra $150 by taking the 3610qm over the 3720qm, I think you should be fine!
3610qm Specs - Intel site -
3610QM more than enough for games.
put the bang more into 7970M card, killer wifi.
also aftermarket upgrade the ram and ssd, musch cheaper! -
killer isnt offered by dell yet
-
It's there now.
-
god..... WHY wasnt it there earlier when i ordered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grrrr..
-
Relax, it's probably cheaper if you buy it elsewhere anyway.
-
yes buy it aftermarket, probably wrong on the site cause the offer a 1103 with BT. as far as i know only the 1202 has wifi with bt and the 1103 without..
-
Doesnt the card have 3 antennas as opposed to my 6205s 2?
And if its supposed to have 2 antennas how could I install it ? -

Dandan, 3610 is enough for games. you will be GPU limited so you want to put the best vid card money can buy in your R4 (which currently is the 7970m by a mile)
Also it appears that you will be able to up the multi's in the R4 bios for slightly higher turbo speeds so effectively overclocking your 3610qm which is good. Its not completely open like an XM processor, but you can set higher multi's. At least you can in the 3820's -
^ Yup. And if a 3610QM can be overclocked to the same level 3 bios overclock as the 3820QM, then the 3720QM and 3820QMs are almost pointless upgrades.

All we need is a 3610QM user to test this out! -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Rep+ for whoever ups the multiplier on the 3610qm to level 3!!!
-
i will try but my r4 comes somewhere next week.
will do it out the box so if it blows i can send ik back as doa
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Thanks Xenn0X...Rep'ed you in advance lol
If you can push the 3610 to the same levels the 3820 can reach, you just saved a bunch of cash -
do i put it on 43/41/39/37?
nothing will blow up anyways, only cpu i ever wrecked was a amd duron. core crippled and burned off
was also my last amd cpu evah! -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
ya, that's it...and it won't blow up. iF your temps get too high, the turbo will pull back the mhz. The safety is built into the intel turbo tech -
now hope dell overclocks the factory so my build comes fast
will repost asap! -
Have you ordered with a 3610QM, 'cause your sig says otherwise?
We know that 3820QMs work already, we need to see the lesser CPU work too. Basically all we need is for a user to set the BIOS to level 3, and take a screenshot of ThrottleStop running the 32M test - takes about 8 seconds. -
sig is wrong, need to edit
was fighting with dell for the 3820 as replacement but gave up
whole R4 is an upgrade per se..
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Bro, it will be epic if the 3610 can get to 43x (4.3ghZ) on single core
I will go out and get an R4 if this is the case. I can sell my r3 for probably more than a R4 with 7970m costs -
I picked up my r4 for 1860 shipped. That's with 1080p screen blue ray 7970m the Intel 6260 card 750 gb hd and 8 gb of RAM. Sold my r3 a month ago for 2300.. yay. On a side note. If I wanted to install the new bigfoot 1103 card.... Would I have to route another antenna? I have the 6250. I would think you could plug it in and just push the cord up where the others go ? Finally, what kind of Phillips head screw driver is recommended to work on those small screws holding the WiFi card in.. ky last laptop I ended up stripping them.

I've got the 3610qm, and am willing to give it a try. But am I missing something? What's this level 3 BIOS stuff? I'm by no means new to overclocking , but I'm new to alienware, and this one is being exchanged..... so if she catches fire oh well
Edit: I figured it out but I have no options like that in my bios. The extreme edition and flex support can not be enabled..... different BIOS version maybe?

should be same bios, if not we need a dump!
-
This is exciting stuff, but I'm gonna be mad if the 3610QM can overclock just as high as the 3720QM >_<
-
check again please and verify, if you really do not have the options we need someone to dump there r4 bios with a 3610 and 3820 cpu and compare just to be sure.
can download it from dell site but maybe dell made a booboo with initial release where they accidently enabled the extra overclock features.
i do think the bios is the same but the microcode has a limitation for the 3610, if we can bypass it by patching it to 3820 to enable those features.
also we need to know which bios versions people are running.
-
Wow man, how'd you get $2300? I had to sell mine (6970m, etc) for $1300.
-
Just checked again, no joy
I'm running BIOS a02, seems to be the only available one on the dell site as well. I'd me more than happy to dump and post my BIOS, someones gonna have to give me some hints on how to though......

not needed, only 1 bios available so it's disabled in bios based on microcode of the cpu. just need a mod where it's enabled and good to go.
will check next week when my R4 is in. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
just a quick mod.... if you know hex code
-
hehe yes but comparing just the part of the 3610 and 3820 makes the search much smaller.
only need to find those parts
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
ah that makes sense. If the Overclocking ends working on the lower end CPU, I may have to get my hands on an r4
-
mine is in next week and will begin the search. done some modding in the past
first need to confirm it myself that it's really not possible, then it's locked in the bios for the 3610qm.
does the 3720qm have those options too in bios? has 6MB cache too like the 3610qm.
so can rule out it's locked by checking cache amount
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
+rep for the future work your putting into this. I really Hope you can get it working dude, let me know if you need any help.
-
already sniffing the a02 bios of r4 with hex editor.
no promises, but this has to be bios locked, time will tell thnx -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
make this happen bro! I want a reason to buy a new laptop lol -
hex shows a lot of bogus data. need Insyde EzH20 editor to get more info, i hope..
used it to open the fd bios file then with winhex i red the open ram memory data in ezh20 of bios and it's more readable now
found the bclk clock states in bios, but this needle needs more crackin.. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
If we know what we need to get done, we could maybe get someone to do crack it open like the A08 modded bios for the r3.
-
yes, my knowledge is also limited, dunno who busted the A08 but i think he will have more succes
we need to enable the overclocking option of all R4 supported cpu's... but where the bugger is hiding.. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
I think another r3 owner brought it up on a bios modding site somewhere..... can't remember the exact site though.
-
I've got her loaded up in the same way, its actually quite readable
maybe 2 heads are better than 1
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
SlickDude80, i just recieved my R4 and looks like i have the clocking options in bios with 3610qm?!
but not all options..
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
i noticed the same thing with my new R4, the long and short duration i dont understand though, in terms of how that can help the turbo overclocking. Also i couldnt adjust bus clock correctly, only let me choose 2 different weird values
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Ya, i have the exact same features in my bios too. So this means that you can extend the life of your turbo, but you cant change the multiplier.
Intel turbo has 2 time durations, the short and the long. During the short boost period, your tdp is 56W (according to that Xenn0X's screen shot). This means that your turbo speeds will be higher because you have more power applied to the CPU. However, after about 28 seconds, it will switch to the long duration and your tdp will drop to 45w which means your turbo speeds will also get slower -
Are those the stock settings? I feel like it's not worth playing with the stock options unless you absolutely have to.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Pyke, those are the stock settings. There really isn't much you can do to overclock a 3610. you'll see much more gain from boosting your 7970m
-
Yeah. I'm happy with the stock settings. I know enough about purchasing products - but I'm too far removed from my technology savvy years to be adept / comfortable playing around with settings. Raising the stock settings also means raising temperatures (I'm guessing) which means increasing the risk of frying your parts... both the ones in your laptop, and, when not on a desk, attached to your body
.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
lol...yes that is true...that is why you need to get a notebook cooler for your legs
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
so for the best performance, would i adjust all those values to the max in the bios? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
you could, but it won't make much of a diff...just overclock the vid card. that actually makes a huge difference in real life -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
i overclocked the 7970m to 925/1500, nothing is stable higher than that in 3dmark11, seems low doesnt it? i scored P6322, seems like a normal score or no?
3610 qm question.
