that's a decent score. Try lowering your vram to say 1450 and try bumping up the core a tad more

does vram have an effect on the core speed? if so id rather have stock vram and like a 975 core.

    update: tried 950/1200....crashes 3dmark11 to desktop...do i have a bad overclocker?

your card just probably needs a little more juice to be stable

    try 940

925 is the max for 3dmark11, and for crysis 2, even 900 crashes after a while, wish i could add some voltage!

I was in another thread and someone told me that the 3610 wouldn't be good for using a PS2 emulator and that I should downgrade to an i5 or upgrade to the 3720. Is that really necessary?

why? the 3610 is a very fast processor. Definitely faster than any i5

Something about the cores I think. Here's the thread, it starts around the middle of the page.

any ivy bridge is more than adequate to run an emulator, i wouldn't put much stock in that

How high can the 3720 be over clocked? (new to over clocking)

Hey Kris, you have a 3610? Only the 3720 and 3820 can be overclocked in the bios via raising the multiplier. THe only thing you can do with the 3610 is raise the BCLK a few percentage points. it isn't really worth doing that. THe 3610 is actually quite powerful as it is, but you will see the biggest gains by overclocking your 7970m...and yes, section 10 in my guide (i.e., Overclocking in MSI Afterburner) will work in your R4...but don't update the unlocked bios as that is for a R3...NOT your R4

via the bios, a 3720 will do:

    40, 39, 38, 38 (i.e., 4ghz single core, 3.9 ghz dual core, 3.8ghz with 3-4cores in use)

Well that's quite good. I suppose there is a guide around here somewhere on how to over clock a 3720 on a Alienware m17xR4 right?

    a guide? sure 3 steps:

Go to advanced tab in the bios
    Enable Overclocking
    Enable Overriding turbo settings
Enable Extreme mode and set the your multipliers to 40,39,38,38

Then save, exit...and enjoy smoking fast computer ;)

How does the 3610 handle video compression and HD video editing? Does it do it well or is the 3720 a large boost to performance in this situation?
