Why do people even bother with EEP. It is only a 2% discount.
You can get a 15% discount on that system at the normal website.

There are other threads talking about the EPP and the percentages. This thread is about getting support (including 3D) for the GTX 485M/580M on the M17X R3. We now have support for the 580M, but MAY or MAY NOT still be lacking it for 3D Vision. We also have some people who have installed the 485M on their own and are seeking the same assistance. But you bring up another point: I should have extended my question to all purchasers. There are some that think this issue is now solved as we can now configure it in a roundabout way by not starting with the 3D choice - maybe they are right. After my failed attempt at ordering it, I would like to see that someone has successfully configured it, ordered it, received it, and tested it.
=====Update======
I have now been able to configure it, have it quoted, and order it. Still need to get it and test it... -

It is true we owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who contributed to untangle this 485m/580m 3D mystery and getting the Dell to do what's right.
So big thanks to LVNeptune for putting his money on the line and big thanks to DeeX for ralling people to show we need to solve this problem.
And thanks to everyone else who helped with this issue.
I'm personally very gratefull.
What's next? My m17x with 580m 3D is on the way ETA 8-16 -
Has anyone in here tested 3D with the A07? These bioses need to be sent to the BIOS hacker forums to figure out what is enabling the "3D" and force it on for anything plugged in
As soon as that is unlocked we are set for life ! -
I believe there is a simple lookup table that just requires the card id to be added to create a condition where the 3D works, I also believe Nvidia could build this into a driver but won't or are contacturally prohibited by Dell
Reasons for this I believe are two fold
1. Dell wants to have full control over what hardware is allowed for warranty purposes and licencing
2. They only want GPU sold by Dell to go into their laptops, people need to be aware of this if true as a generic 580m will not function 100% - could be wrong of course -
Tonight, i will try to see if it's working with gtx485m but i dont think so :/
Now we can update the gtx460m directly on nvidia site with 280.18 driver.
And yes, good idea Lvneptune, but I don't know someone who can do that :/
And thanks to this forum, we can enjoy in a better way our laptop -
Thanks to LVNeptune for taking the plunge and testing out the 485m first. And to everyone else who followed and/or took part in the poll. Thank's to Darcoder to trying to remedy the issue with drivers, and to the OP for bringing this up on dell ideastorm. Thanks all.

It's not working :/ i try with dell 580m driver and last beta nvidia driver.
-
We need to do something like that for a better screen.
-
Damn thats a bit lame that they wouldnt allow all nvidia cards. A end user would know that the performance would suck on low end cards.

Lol. I understand they probably get tons of PMs when they do pop up. We had one here a while back, went by erawneila (Alienware backwards
) and he was great. I was able to being ip a complaint about an m17x R2 bios that caused unnecessary limits on the 920xm/940xm cpus. Bios A08 if I recall correctly. He took my tests and data back to the engineers and a new bios was released in a week or two. Thats one reason we love your support. Helps make our concern heard, even if the forum community is small on numbers compared to the entire Dell market.

Nice to see the interaction. To be quite honest if Dell listened to the smart people of this site and mix that with some of their uber engineer action and bam!.
Cant be bad.
@Bill_B Thanks for the help and the communication. People had a need for a powerful 3D card and they have it. Thank you!
