Wonder if I should cancel my order and redo for the 580. I currently have it @ the 6970 now.

350$ more than the 6970M. This card will be very popular as it will give more boost to gaming than a cpu upgrade, and the price is justifiable.

$600 upgrade? Dear God, way too expensive for what's likely +15-20% increase over a 6970.

SLI on the M18x probably coming soon. They are offering 20% off on the current set of cards.

But look at that price. 580M is a $600 upgrade on the M17x, imagine what SLI will cost.

No one wants the 560m, very similar to the 460m for more money. Maybe 10% performance boost at most.

I'm sure AMD Radeon has there next top mobile card in the works. Obviously technology changes fast so there will be something better in 6 months. Hopefully AMD has something better soon haha doubt it though.

We will certainly be able to upgrade but the cost should be pretty insane probably upwards of $800 or more :).

Nvidia "claims" its 2x the perfomance of the 6970m ;).

I am very happy with my 6970m though so personally not interested but i know theres alot of Nvidia fans out there and while i love Nvidia
i dont love there pricing .

It should work but not in 3d, probably similar to the people who upgraded to the 485m with the 120hz display.

You would have to buy the card separately and install it yourself.

They are not going to sell the card with the 120hz display since it does not support 3d(at this time most likely but maybe down the road).

If they sell the card with the 120hz display but no 3d it will be a tech support nightmare for them with people calling in asking "Why can i not play in 3d" etc .

According to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M - Notebookcheck.net Tech , We're generally looking at about 5% over the if you compare systems which has the same CPU. (More % if you compare the 580M testsystem with 6970M's on a slower CPU)

Worth the $? That's not for me to decide.

The 6990m is in the works. A few prototypes have shown up here and there - TWO on this forum even. 1120 shaders. Blows away the GTX 485m by 20% - so it should be at least as fast if not faster than the GTX 580m.

No you cannot. It does show as an option when you select the 3D package, but selecting the 580m shows an error.

You know what I think, that that error is an error and the 580m does indeed work with the 3D display, at least I hope so.

Just wait a couple of days for Dellianware to fix the errors.

~16-40% in games the GTX 485M already lead in isn't really 2x the performance.

To be frank, that chart doesn't really put the GTX 580M that far ahead of the GTX 485M....TDP might have come down into the 90-95W range though, so that's something.

I got one of them 1120 shader GPUs. The performance on stock is really good about 12800 GPU score a bit better than the GTX 485m. Heat output is also controllable even in the M15x. A chinese seller is stocking them on taobao but an account is a devil to set up.

I also noticed that it doesn't want to let you choose the 120 Hz screen with the 580M. Is this just a bug or is the 460M still the only option that supports that screen and 3D?

No 3D support on the 580 has to be an oversight. There's no reason to pay that much more than the 6970 if you can't get the 120 Hz screen and 3D.
