well guys. looks like the 580 is going to be owned by the 6990 unless we can figure out the throttling issues

Pretty close really. 6990M is a little stronger in 3dMark11, but the 580 leads in Vantage. The Heaven benchmark doesn't show enough difference to matter. Both cards are delivering performance that was unthinkable for a single card notebook until the last few months.

yes well right now im incredibly annoyed at dell for throttling the card..

and if heat is so bad why not throttle the 6990 too? half the fun is overclocking, but its being artificially limited when its not on comparable clevos etc

The 6990M is throttling too. The voltage restrictions severely limit the overclockability, so it's not much of a bencher, but it's a hoss in stock trim for most uses.

You get throttling at higher overclocks? The clocks are dropping down?

lol. thats the point!! we cant!!!

overvolting gives LOWER clocks!! it trips the throttling earlier

its only the clevos that can get overvolting and good overclocks

    thanks chief!!!
nope @ 835 core the benchmark freezes and the driver crashes. prolly need some external cooling to get to higher core clocks. could prolly go a little higher on the memory too.

    Ah true true!

How about 3d mark 11. Boost the MEM perhaps and see if you can beat your last score oles! :p
I've also seen others sacrafice the MEM OC to try and help boost the core a little bit more. I'm not too sure which one actually boosts the score more though. If I remember correctly raising the core increase the heat more so then the mem but then again the mem chips will also heap up quicker when being raised and tortured :p

    Cheers. :)

@Inap: Do you have some kill-o-watt readings? I'm eager to try and voltmod my 6970m sometime during the next weeks, I wonder whether there's some headroom in the r3 when it comes to power draw.

psu is actually 240watts. gave me a few mins i'll re-run the heaven again and gave you some numbers to play with. if you can hook us up with a voltage mod that would be crazy.

Cool, thanks a lot! This means there's a lot of headroom, the only problem is that more voltage brings more heat... well, we'll see, first of all I have try it and check out whether it works.

Edit: With this headroom a 2920xm and the unlocked BIOS would be cool :D

Hmm, ok, that's interesting, the Dell 460m had a 3d voltage of 0.95V if I remember correctly.
Is it possible to raise the voltage of the 560m? Do you know whether the VBIOS allow a slight change?

Very interesting, thanks, +rep. So it's definitely an improvement compared to the 460m, overclocked you get to the stock level of a 470m, even a bit above in vantage. Sweet. Considering that the card is cheaper than a 460m that's pretty cool.
