figured i'd throw my hat into the ring now that i've had enough time to set up my new baby
here are my stock results out of the box (2820/6990m/4gb 1333/750gb HD):
3dmark 11 - 3883
3dmark vantage - 14008
i've just replaced the memory with 16gb 1600 hyperX and put in an M4 drive (still needs an installed OS though).
am open to any advice on places to modify for better resultsother than what i've seen you guys mentioning so far, is there any other tweaks that should be made right off the bat or is it just feeling it out?
-
I was crazy about mine waiting so long i had all drivers on usb in sub folders by installation order. Had everything done within an hour of opening the box. Including full windows updates.
-
Well, here is my 1st stock 6990 benchmark.
3DVantage P13928 GPU 12713 CPU 19602.
This is with Stock Dell Drivers. Will now attempt an OC.
UPDATE:
840/1200 clocks P15951 GPU 15006. CPU 19666 Stock Driver.
I am happy with this GPU! -
does ssd playing a role for higher cpu score in vantage??thx

Whoa. Yep, we need voltage room, but wonder how high these clocks could be pushed.

3d Vantage P16470 @ 840/1200 w/CCC 11.6 OCL. GPU is 15613. CPU is unchanged at 19715.
I am tapping out. -
Any particular reason I can't get anything above 830/1150 to stick?
(The only thing I've modified is said overclock)
Anyway, my numbers at 830/1150 were 4455 and 15944. -
Mine would crashed on this OC setting (though the temp is 75C after the crash). The max I can go without crashing is 830/1100. Am still happy though
-
Just posting my results from my new comp. All stock clocks
3d mark vantage 14151 (13323)
3d mark 2011 3400 (3157)
heaven 2.5 42.6 fps
Thanks! -
, I had two 6990 M17s yesterday, I took the better of the two GPUs. The other GPU wouldn't do 840/1200 either, but it did 820/1100 perfectly. I took the faster of the two obviously.
-
Am still happy with mineat least I can go up to 830/1100.
Stock clocks already suit my need though.
-
Agreed. There is NO reason to OC this GPU it plays everything fine. But it is good to know when the GPU starts to get old in about 2+ years, you can squeeze a little more out of it.

I don't know, maybe you could make a case for crossfire, but single card the most demanding titles will benefit from OCing at 1080p with AA.
-
I've never seen enough benefit from it to do outside of benching. Its not like the CPU where you can get a 40-50% or more increase in speed.
-
620 to 840 is 35% and very noticible. far more than any i7 cpu overclock. which doesnt do much for games
-
more like 715 to 800ish. If your talking about in games. I got 850 in Vantage but had to back off to 835 for 2011. Then I never want to be at the max. I prefer a stable game than one that crashes unexpectedly. I've had desktop cards barely 10% higher in benches so I just left it at stock. Maybe if I had them on my waterblock when I was doing water cooling but most are already near thermal maxes.
-
more like??
stock is 620 i got it to 840.
thats a big oc and far more noticible than any i7 overclock -
stock on the 6990m is 715Mhz do you have the 6970m? Big difference in what you can clock for benches and what is good for gaming. I still wouldn't go over 800Mhz 24/7. My card gets 850 in Vantage but the max stable is really 820-830 which is about 15%. I'd rather turn AA or quality down a bit. Majority of time AA is sufficient with a powerful card. Of course that was always with a desktop where I could always just get another card when it starts getting slow... my first laptop card
-
no i have the 580m
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
if its stable on benches test the games, if its stable there, its stable.
580m vs 6990 benchmarks
