Why dont you trust aafes? (Besides the un-dependability of the aafes rep who won't respond to emails, even though he tells you to email him. He only actually does stuff when you call him up and request it).

I've had a couple of 'glitches' with AAFES, but overall they aren't that bad. The thing to remember is to watch out for the quality sales.

Yup you can. When you log onto your aafes account, up at the top right, there's "Order Tracking" (next to the log off button). There, you'll see your purchase #. Click on it, and it takes you to your order. You can "view receipt" and "track this order" (or something liek that). It'll take you immediately to the dell order status page, and show you your status! :) Then you can write down that order number, and in the future just go to the dell order status page and punch it in along with your zip code.

Wow, that price is enticing. If only they offered the GTX485M. Still, the 460 is a really good card too. :p

2 days tops. YOu'll be billed in a day or two for sure lolz. Then a day or two after that, you can track it through dell. It'll say order processing or something.

    Man, that's expensive sounding.

No prob, bob. HOpe everything turns out well. For the most part, ordering through aafes is really convenient.

    Hello Sir or Mam,

It takes about 24-48 hours. Once you make the order requisition through the online exchange catalog, aafes will then forward the order to Dell. Once Dell gets and confirms the order, aafes will notify you through their order status section with the external links to track the unit at the Dell site. Good day.

I noticed this, and I did go with the custom nameplate as well. Unfortunately this does not show on the dell tracking page, sigh.

    Hi everyone,
We have a family friend who worked in the Army for 2 years. I want to buy this beast but, can someone tell me the steps to follow. Is it possible to buy from the AAFES website with my bro's Credit card.
    Thanks
PS: I'm in the UK and my Brother will mail it to me.

Well first you have to be in the military or at least been retired. When you get out of the military part of out processing is closing your star card account. Now if your family friend is in the military still then he needs to have an aafes account. With that info you would log into aafes.com. Then go to the computers tab and select speciality stores, then select Dell and alienware. Then you select and customize the laptop you want. It will then bill aafes for you to purchase it with the star card.

Now with that said, you using some elses credit card is illegal. You using aafes to order something is illegal. The military person that buys the item and gives it to you is illegal.

Thanks for your reply. But, I want to clear some things here.
I am not using someone else's card, it is my bro's and he will use it himself anyway. I saw someone on this thread suggesting that one can buy the laptop using family friend's AAFES discount.

I didn't read the entire thread, but in case this wasn't answered, you are NOT allowed to do this, and can get into trouble (lose privileges, or even court-marshalled) if found out. You can however purchase it as a gift for someone else.

I got the Blu-Ray, 8GB RAM, the Intel 6300 WiFi, and some other goodies that I'm too tired to mention- Was up really late due to the tsunami that hit here in HI... :p

*EDIT* Oh I did a comparison config off of the AW website and the same config came out to over $2500 w/out any coupons.

So yes. In a nutshell, unless you are family, it's technically fraud. If you're using someone else's cc, it's always fraud. If you're related to the person, aafes will let it slide only AFTER they call your brother to verify. The policy is that he/she is the only one who should be available to use the account. In my case, they let it slide because it was a gift. Of course, the best way is to call and check with aafes. Hope this helps.

    **In case you're wondering:**

Yes, you can use whomever's cc once you gain access to aafes account. But like we all said, it's best if you're related to the person (immediate family is most understandable I assume). Dont go around getting non-family in trouble for something like this.

^^Ditto. Everyone rep this guy :)

Thanks for your response. But, I am not the one i.e. buying this laptop. My brother is buying it as a gift for me with his own credit card. I think the best thing to do is call and check with AAFES regarding the discount. If its not possible my bro will get his own EPP discount( He works for Nike).
Can someone give me the details of a good dell epp csr?

You lose AAFES discount when you get out of military unless you are retiring. So your brother who served for 2 years can not get AAFES discount.
Its on AAFES website mainpage if you log in to AAFES.

Thanks for the clarification. But, my brother didn't worked in the military, our family friend did. It makes no difference anyway, as he came out before retiring. So it is better to buy through EPP(as a Nike employee).

This is all very true. The most important thing to remember though is in my previous post. For the actual ordering process itself, just picture yourself ordering from amazon--yes, it's THAT easy.

Even if you didn't retire the amount of time you serve active, also translates into a mandatory reserve period. So even if you only served 2 years, you are still technically military reserve for 2 more years after your ETS date. So you would still probably be in the system for 4 years.

EDD is 3/30 on the Dell site but 3/29 on the phone.. My wait is gonna be longer than yours because I have to get it shipped via Shipit APO after Fedex delivers it there then it should be on it's way to Guam after that.. This sucks! Haha..
