If a 7970M can survive under a notebook with a 150w PSU, it'll have no problems heatwise in our R2s with the 240w PSU.

hm, wonder what kinda system they used for testing? P5.4k on 11 seems a tad low...

P5.4k is stock 7970M GPU score on 3DMark11...
P6.4k is heavily OCed 7970M GPU score
P7.4k is heavily OCed 7970M GPU score w/ Tessellation off aka cheating

Overall P scores are usually boosted by the high CPU score

Higher stock graphics results mean that powertune is *somewhat* working in the background

A couple of pages back, pau10w posted a link to the R4's running 7970ms at stock clocks at 5700-5800. Does the difference between the R3 and R4 account for that jump?

That French R4 3dMark11 score of P5860 (and 5546 Graphics Score) reported by Pau1ow is with tess off, which makes that score look pretty ordinary compared to scores from GeoCake and SlickDude. Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3820QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5860 3DMarks.

If that is tess off, its a little low. On stock with tess off, it should be over 6k. I can easily hit 7k with an OC...Geo hit 7600? or 7800? with tess off...mind you, this is with a 4.5ghz CPU

Thanks Fanta...but if these are the same ones found in the dell resource CD, they won't work. It took GEO 5 hrs to get his computer back. It had something to do with the integrated graphics and Enduro...so installer beware

I think the P5860 from the French guy with the supposed Tess off ("Unable to verify AMD Catalyst Tess...") is due to the bad driver support (Dell generic drivers) - I'm sure he hadn't desactivated the tesslation so his score is pretty standard.

It means upgrades are low on the priority list. Theyll use their inventory up producing full systems before they sell them individually.

You'll have to find another reseller or wait.

Sticking my Radeon 8500 in the freezer to remove the heatsink and using arctic silver thermal epoxy to attach a thermaltake crystal orb.

on my current card @6970 i have 1mm 5w/mk phobya ultra thermal pads, but on the photo, you can see, 1mm, 1.5mm and 0.5mm 7w/mk. I will try to use 1mm ones. 5w/mk can be compressed to half of its original height, 7w/mk as well, but i think it will need more pressure :/ wich can compromise DIE to heatsink contact.

And we missed you too :D
