Managed to force it to install with the 6990m, after getting BSOD constantly, finally got it to boot but lost graphics switching and brightness control. Restored to old drivers.

Well, I was able to get 12.8 installed successfully the first time no problem...however, now my GPU clocks idle at 250/950...not sure what that's about, but wasn't an issue when I was running 12.7 beta. Going to try to revert back to 12.7 and make sure the problem goes away. If so, then I'll hold off until the next beta release. For some reason the beta drivers tend to be more stable for me then the certified drivers...go figure

I have the same "issue", but i had it also with 12.7b. It is not always, let say is random. sometimes i boot in windows and clocks are ok, sometimes i boot and my secondary idle @250/1000 (i have the cards flashed @775/1000 1.05V). If i run a 3D application and exit it, the clocks will reset as they should be. I will stick with 12.8 anyway, skyrim is finally working properly in crossfire for me, and i find them nice and stable, beside this issue.

Have you disabled Ulps by chance? I'm starting to think that it may depends by this setting.

    Hi Cpt,

Nope haven't disabled Ulps (at least not that I recall), but I agree that it's a very odd issue. I'm going to put 12.7 back on and see if it clears up or not (going to do a system disk restore, versus just downgrading the driver) and will let you know. It's not a huge issue to me, other then the chip runs hotter as they aren't idling correctly and the fans run more often...I'm just confused as to how this happens. Otherwise it's been pretty stable, 3dmark scores have been good and honestly if I had Skyrim for PC and it made it run better, it would definitely be worth it to me.

I'll let you guys know how my downgrade goes.

*EDIT* So I downgraded, and you know what Cpt...my secondary card also idles at 250/950 until I run a game (in this particular instance I ran Witcher 2) and then it downed the clock speed back to 100/150 idle. Must not have noticed it before...so my question to you is...with 12.8 are you still able to get the cards back to idle speeds after running a game? If so, I might upgrade again and give it a try. What a pain, so I guess 12.6 was the last driver that didn't do this (that I'm aware of).

*EDIT 2* Ok so re-installed 12.8 and now the clocks are down clocking correctly...so I can honestly say, I have no idea what's going on..LOL

I'll try to play around with it more today and see if I can sort out what's going on.

Yep! i confirm you that with 12.8whql whenever you run a 3D app, upon exiting it the clocks will go back at 100/150. Same behaviour i had with 12.7betas :)

Just a little heads up to R2 users with the 7970m, Many problems you encounter such as the one Greywolf has with his 6970 Xfire are fixable by downloading the none mobility drivers. I speak from experience :L

I can't overclock with these drivers. I get horrible screen tearing all over the place. However when the voltage is reduced, it runs flawlessly. It's like my GPU is unstable with the stock 1.1v, but that never happened with older driver sets. I honestly tried to overclock after flashing back to normal settings and even 1mhz faster on the core made the computer flip out... >_> Bad drivers are bad.

Well, since reinstalling 12.8 I haven't had any issues...the cards are down clocking properly and running with my current flashed settings of .96V 715/950 without any problems at all.

Not sure what's different then the last time (as I simply restored from backup and upgraded the driver again the same way as I did before)

    But so far so good.

Ok getting my m17x in a few weeks. So once I get it I should turn off enduro with fn+f7 the install the AMD 12.8 drivers without uninstalling the original dell drivers it's shipped with for the best proformance?

Also why are dell's drivers different?

Typically the Dell drivers seem to be outdated and the AMD reference drivers are typically updated monthly. You can most definitely use the Dell drivers, but you may not see all the benefits (optimization, performance gains, etc.) as you would using the AMD reference drivers. Really up to you. Enjoy your new rig.

If you are getting switchable graphics notebook, you need to install AMD drivers over official Dell drivers.

Just letting you know that I installed this on my 5650M and it seems to make BF3 run slightly smoother than 12.1 or 11.12.

Didn't break overclock or any other noticeable features.

Still hasn't fixed the occasional dip to 26 fps in game though.

    Hi All,

I am new to the m17x, just got it this past week, and new to ATI cards. I have always been an nVidia fan boy since they started.. but a $600 price difference for almost identical performance??

So I installed the modded drivers and all seemed to go well. Guild Wars 2 seems to be getting higher frame rates than before. However, I can no longer run 3DMark11. It just crashes with an unspecified error on the third test. Is this an expected behavior with "Modded" drivers? I had planned on loading the factory drivers but the referenced link is now invalid and AMD makes it so freaking hard to get mobile reference drivers. That is one thing I am already missing about nVidia.. So I will need to track those down and give them a try.

Additionally, I keep seeing the same question asked on every driver post I can find, "Have the fixed Enduro yet?", but I can not find a description of what is broken. When I play GW2, my clocks lock in at 850 & 1200 and stay there for the duration of the game. Is that not how it is supposed to work?

EDIT: Just did a system restore back to the current Dell drivers and hitting a 3DMark11 score of P5845.

The updated link for the factory 64bit drivers is:
    http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/mobile/12-8_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe

3DMark11 fails with the factory drivers as well.

The issue with Enduro is that the card is under utilized in many games so the card isn't pushing what it can. This causes games like BF3 to have sudden FPS drops during gameplay and other games to underperform when they should be fine with the card. On the other hand many games run fine though they might be able to run better with Enduro off.

Wow, I just tried the F7 trick to disable the on-board and it made a HUGE difference in GW2! Holy crap, I see now what you are talking about.

With Enduro running I was seeing 85-90% of the time well above 30fps and with it off it was more like 99.9%..

Anyone else with an R4 7970M tried running 3DMark after installing 12.8? I reverted back to the 7/13/2012 8.973, A01 drivers from Dell and all is normal.

There was a negligible difference in scores between 12.6 (stock dell) and 12.8 (amd reference) drivers from what I saw on stock clocks. I did bench both of them on both vantage and 2011.

Ok So I actually got these to install on my M17xR3 with the 6970. Before today however I had been running into the same issues others have been having where when I would install the drivers it would either blue screen or the install would work (or so it would seam) yet rebooting would show like no drivers. So how I did it was pretty simple I was able to find the Modded A10 Bios for the R3 installed it and disabled the IGP within the BIOS so that turned off onboard GFX and swap-able gfx but I didn't care. After rebooting I made a restore point just incase and I tried my luck with the 12-8 Drivers and they worked perfectly. Driver shows the correct version and so far so good.

@ CheezWiz My experience has 3DMark11 as a tempermental little app on various machines. "Loosing Focus" is a common error and it usually comes from background programs running (at least it's a logical error message). Moving my mouse in the past seemed to make it loose focus.

Shutdown unnecessary background programs, don't touch your KBAM while running and don't load up a bunch of monitoring apps would be my advice.

Installed right over my 12.7's perfectly using the win7 64 driver. Just benchmarked and ran fine, now to test some games. Sweet, love having the OFFICIAL DRIVER! Not sure how people are having issues. I am also running my 17x on my 7970m without enduro.

Ofcourse you can. It's just that the installation of newer drivers for the dGPU is recommended with the iGPU turned off.

No you cannot, with IGP enabled, these drivers wont work, even after a successful install at first. For using IGP, you have to stick to 12.4, 12.6 over the official Dell drivers.

Is it just me or is the link to AMD Catalyst Mobility 12.8 Win 8 | Win 7 | Vista (64-bit) dead?

Also is anyone else having trouble getting ACM 12.8 (looked it up on amd.com since link is dead) not detecting 7670M cards?

They work perfectly on my system, they install without a problem, i've got a slight improvement over 12.8 and they fixed the secondary card idle clocks issue.
