Ahh this is killing me. Still no emails or messages and tracking still says in china. Might call WUK tomorrow to make sure it's not sat on the shelf at the warehouse

Can you get an Alienware 17 with a non-matte display? Also can you put 2 SSDs in there and get sata 6gbs?

The 3D bundle does not have a matte display. And all of the drive bays are SATA III.

The ODD is SATA III as well. Alienware offers a 1TB RAID 0 (4x 256GB) SSD option, all at SATA 6Gb/s.

Ordered my AW17 on 10/23. Was scheduled for delivery today, 11/6.

I called today when the status was still saying 'in production' and not only did the Rep tell me it wasn't going to be here today, they have no ETA on shipping.

Is this typical of how Dell treats customers? It's a $4k laptop.

BTW- for anyone else who is waiting, I was told it was a shortage of 'hinge covers'.

It's not uncommon for there to be shortages these days, especially around this time of year. It could be somewhat true... Going by the price you mentioned: if you ordered the 4930MX, you'll want to re-paste it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the Owner's Lounge.

    Parts shortage?

What's a typical build time? Assuming all parts are in for a 17, mines just hit production. Having had to reorder it due to Dell cancelling my order because it would have had a psu for a 770 instead of a 780. It's suddenly flown up. Original ETA was the 15th now it's the 27th.

Weird ... they did the same for my replacement system, it is in production but it has a 180w adapter tied to it with a 780m :S

I called tech support, he suggested just using my 240w adapter from my M17XR4 and then calling them when I get the new system to have a different adapter shipped to me do that it does not affect the delivery date and delay it. Does not really affect me all that much as I have another 240w adapter that I can use in the mean time but it is concerning that they are doing this to others.

If this were to happen and something happened to it , the shipping company would be on the hook for the laptop if it was stolen or something.

exemple : the 1499$ model can't be purchased @ 1200$ with some options (1080p ? or the gtx 770m) with negociations via telephone ?

(sorry for the english, i'm working on it ^^)

Ok, so my AW 17 4800mq, 780gtx is in production: I went for the 1080p screen but just 60hz (hopefully I won't regret that) and the 64gb SATA with 750GB HD.

Crossing my fingers that it doesn't need to be repasted or require too much tinkering!

EDD 6 days and counting. (I kind of expect it to ship late, but I don't expect dell to tell me that until after the event!)

My order has been put back to 5th of December: which is when my wife is BACK from her one week business trip overseas, rather than the obviously preferable BEFORE.

    Damn.

Welcome to Dell may I take your order?
Only if you give me what I want!!

Last year I bought the 18 inch and had to return it because of the hard drive imposter wire was busted on the motherboard and I was scared to get another one so I got a refund. One year later I am back but I'm buying the 17 inch because I don't have the funds for an 18 inch plus I think I'll do fine with a 17 inch. I was ready to buy the MSI GT70 but decided to call Dell and get a quote and then work my charms and see what I can get. The one thing I don't like about the MSI GT70 is it only has 1 fan to cool both CPU and GPU and I've read many people having heating issues and the thing being hot. With that in my mind I called Dell and got one ordered with the specs below and I think I got a great deal, did I? I got the hard drives setup so I dont have to add my own drives which eases my concerns.

Owners of the 3D display look in AIDA or in the similar program of the producer of the display? It is very necessary.

Hello there and happy new year!

First of all i am new here so i am gonna go straight on topic :)

I wanna buy a gaming laptop and i wanna know for sure that i won't waste my money and i wont be disappointed.

Here in Greece we have this laptop -> DELL ALIENWARE 17 I7-4700MQ/8GB/750GB (ALN17-I7470008W8P) Notebooks ¬νω 16.7" Αγορς στη Media Markt
(website language is in Greek but you will be able to understand the specifications)

I want your opinions, is it good enough? I am a gamer, i play lineage 2, league of legends and few other games like NFS etc.

It'll be able to run BF3 or CoD smooth enough on medium/high graphics?

PS; i dont want it for facebook , twitter etc, i want it for games :)

    Hi Guys,

First post and first gaming rig. I have been trawling through these forums checking out all the information before I finally placed an order for an Alienware 17.

Placed an order on 31/12/13, following a very quick chat with a Dell Senior Sales adviser, who offered a great deal (good discount)

Current Estimated Delivery Date is 22/01/14.

This is going to be the longest wait!

Overclocked 4th Gen Intel(R)Core(TM)i7-4900MQ Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
    17.3 inch (439.42 mm) 120Hz WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) TrueLife w/3D Bundle
    32GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
    256GB mSATA SSD Boot + 750GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5

    I cannot wait! :D

Nah, the price isn't visible. Don't worry about it. They also disguise the system to make it less attractive to potential thieves, who may want to steal an Alienware, but not a Dell. For all she'll know, it's some cheap Dell Inspiron.

Gratz on your guys orders. I have had mine for a couple weeks now and absolutely love it. The sound blows me away compared to what I had before. The graphics card has reached 92c on my monitor though when playing for a few hours on max settings in few games such as Battlefield 4 and others. I want to repaste it but haven't found a video yet showing the breakdown to do so. I'm waiting for the 1tb msata drive they introduced last month to become more available before I open this thing up. The keyboard seams to be a bit stiff for me as sometimes I feel like I have to pound the keys in order to get them to respond but that will hopefully break in over time. The track pad is average at best, it is a bit sensitive and I'm trying my best to find a happy setting for it, most don't even use it but its easier for me than a regular mouse.

The only thing that pissed me off about my purchase was that I was promised a $240 gift card and all they would give me was $141 saying its the %5 they offer. I was tempted to fight them on this issue and send it back but gave in and took the $141 which will use to buy a Netgear Push2tv 3000 to wirelessly transmit to my tv.

92c? sounds rather high. Does re-pasting not affect the warranty?

I don't plan on using the trackpad, as I have purchased a Razer Orochi Mouse to accompany my AW.

Personally I would have contested the gift card, as that was the original terms of sale, but I realise it can be hassle.

What specs did buy? and how long did it take to arrive from ordering?
    ------------------------

I have just received my AW bag, ordered at the same time with the laptop (but bag still says in production), fingers crossed the system is slow to update, and so maybe there's a chance of my laptop arriving a bit earlier :)

If you go back one page to 13 you will see my specs.
It took about 16 days to get.
I changed a few items on mine so it might have taken a bit longer to build.

Those specs look good man, delivery time sounds reasonable, but you are based in the US, so I imagine there might be a difference place of manufacture? I have read somewhere that AW 17's are coming from China (For European orders).

If my build takes 16 days I will be over the moon! it has only been 6 days, but I am hoping it will come a lot sooner than the estimate (22/01/14)

my replacement Alienware 17 is coming with 16gb of ram does anyone know what the configuration of the memory that alienware ships? is it 4x 4gb? or 2x 8gb? really hope its 2x8GB

also its coming with the 80GB msata SSD. does anyone know who makes the SSD or the model number? id like to look up some reviews and specs on the drive. I'm thinking of replacing it with the new Samsung 840 evo 1TB Msata. the reviews for it look awesome.

Used my gift card last weekend ($141) and ordered the Netgear 3000 wireless ($65) and the Bose IE2 earbuds headphones ($99)
I got the Bose earbuds today and have been listening to Pink Floyd through them for the last couple of hours and WOW am I impressed by the sound from these bad boys. Needed to tweak the sound in the equalizer but after that, man I'm Cumfortably Numb!!

As regards to my heat issue on my GPU reaching 92c, I ordered an Arctic Silver 5 kit to clean and repaste. Will update when that happens

Ordered my first Alienware on 27th December,
    Intel i7-4800MQ Processor,
    750GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s + 80GB mSATA SSD,
    16gb 1600mhz DDR3L,
    17.3" (439.42 mm) WLED FHD Anti-Glare Display (1920 x 1080) w/ 3D Bundle,
    Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BD-ROM, DVDRW, CD-RW),
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5 .

System went to pre-production around 30th December, with an EDD 29/1/14, checked order status everyday from that point to see if it was "in-production" and there was no change until 9/1/14 "cancelled", no email or anything telling me that until around 10 hours later that day, due to being at work I was unable to contact anyone regarding this until later that evening, spoke to someone via the web chat facility, they arrange a callback for me within 5 minutes of that conversation, spoke to someone regarding my order and they said that it had been cancelled due to that model no longer being available, but they do have a newer model, which is better on battery life, uses less power, better cooling, and they could offer me that at the same price, so I though fair enough, so I was sent a quote to look at and accept whilst I was on the phone, all seemed well, accepted and confirmed my delivery details, checked this morning and it's now moved onto pre-production, with a new EDD of 3/02/14.

Has anyone else had similar issues in the past? How soon do orders tend to go from pre-production to in-production?

    Thanks in advance,

    T

I would say it depends on if the order was on a weekend or holiday, it might be a day or two delay...I would guess no more than two days before it goes into production then its just wait time...Took me 16 days to get mine from order day on phone...Waiting is the hardest thing

That's not too bad then, fingers crossed it'll be a similar thing for mine, the order was processed and move to Pre-Production yesterday afternoon, so guessing with it being the weekend now, it wont move to in-production until this coming working week ( or at least I hope so anyway) I don't fancy a repeat of last time.

Ordered mine on the 31st December, was in pre-production until the 7th Jan. Changed from production to dispatched on the 10th. Original delivery date was the 22nd Jan, now is showing as 17th Jan (or sooner). And waiting really is the hardest part of buying an Alienware!

What spec did you end up going for with yours then?

I'm wondering what the issue was with mine really, they did say the model i ordered wasn't available due to a new model, but don't know if the dell agent was lying to me just to keep the order with them, and stop me going else where, having compared the original order sheet to the new one, the only differences were 203-46302 N00AW759 and 450-AASR Power Cord (UK) on the original order, where as on the new order 203-41570 N00AW703 and 470-AATE UK 250V Power Cord.

    So i'm somewhat curious.

    My specs are:

Overclocked 4th Gen Intel(R)Core(TM)i7-4900MQ Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
    17.3 inch (439.42 mm) 120Hz WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) TrueLife w/3D Bundle
    32GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
    256GB mSATA SSD Boot + 750GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5

    and 450-AAJI 240W AC Adapter1 SR.

I have read elsewhere it can 2 days from dispatch for delivery, others say 5-7 working days, but I can only wait and see!

It would not surprise me if there were new components being released this quarter of the year (would mean I bought mine just before the change over).
